Job Description Trade and Distribution Data and Analytics Manager Job Profile Summary Vertex is a biotechnology company with commercialized medicines for Cystic Fibrosis, Sickle Cell Disease, Transfusion Depended Beta-thalassemia and Acute Pain. Vertex also has a robust pipeline with programs in Type 1 Diabetes and targeted kidney diseases in phase 3 clinical trials, as well as several programs in phase 2 development. This opportunity is unique in the breadth of disease areas in scope as well as the product modalities which span small molecule, gene therapy, cell therapy, subcutaneous injections, and mRNA therapy, each requiring unique and innovative access and distribution strategies. The Trade and Distribution Data Analytics Manager will be responsible for supporting insights activities. The insights are used to track business performance and provide key data to inform business decisions. The Manager will typically partner with their manager on key projects and will be responsible for data analysis and assisting in cross-functional project support that includes market research and new product launches. General Summary: The Trade and Distribution Data Analytics Manager will be responsible for supporting insights activities. The insights are used to track business performance and provide key data to inform business decisions. The incumbent will collaborate closely with the Market Access Strategy team, the Contract Operations Team, and the Field Accounts team. They will build strong cross-functional working relationships across Accounting, Compliance, Finance, Data and Technology, Data Sciences, Government Affairs and Public Policy, Legal, Regulatory and Supply Chain. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drives quarterly business review process to manage program performance. Collates functional partner inputs, build timely content, sharing initiatives and relevant business objectives to drive partnership and program enhancements.
- Communicates distribution-related analytics, reporting on demand trends, order activity, cost per order, inventory statuses and other key activities to provide insight and understanding of program performance.
- Collaborates in cross-functional team meetings as appropriate to support ongoing issue resolution. Identify process gaps, develop process improvements to support evolving business needs and customer experience.
- Executes a range of moderately complex data analysis and assists in market research projects.
- Conducts all data engineering, exploration, visualization and analyses.
- For analytics projects run by external partners or vendors, collaborates on the underlying analytical process and pressure test the outputs from external partners or vendors.
- Partners with internal stakeholders to understand the business objectives, collaborates with external partners and vendors to devise the best methodological approach and manage the execution of the project.
- Builds strong presentations that document project findings and implications.
- Maintains a database of data and insights resources available to the team.
- Supports new product launch planning activities, including coordination with cross-functional launch teams and channel partners, assemble required new product information to create product set up documentation, prepare external communications of product related information, training materials, and support other launch tactics.
- Department Mosaic lead, responsible for portal maintenance, enhancements, training, and the creation of dashboards
- Maintains a database of data and insights resources available to the team.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Superior analytical skills with proficiency in SQL, SAS
- Advanced Excel Modeling skills
- Technical proficiency in Tableau or PowerBI or other data visualization tools
- Experience working with CRM data systems like Salesforce, Veeva, etc.
- Knowledge of ETL processes, databases, warehouses, and related software skills
- Knowledge of Snowflake
- Experience with pharmaceutical data sets including de-identified patient data, 852, 867, Chargeback, 3PL
- Analytical - you will be able to analyze relevant data sources and understand how to use this information to drive projects to influence the business.
- Data driven, detailed oriented and hands-on: Devise and utilize algorithms and models to mine big data, perform data and error analysis to improve models, analyze & integrate data with clear objectives in mind.
- Communication - ability to communicate ideas and data both verbally and effectively in a presentation, in a persuasive, organized and appropriate manner.
- Interpreting results and draw actionable insights: Interpret findings in the context of business problems and assesses their implications.
- Strong customer relationship, interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to work effectively with diverse audiences and influence cross functionally.
- Experience managing service providers and vendor management skills.
- Strong project management, problem solving and analytic skills.
- Team player promoting inclusion and respectful relationships, able to develop rapport and credibility with field and home office personnel including senior management.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet goals and objectives in a deadline intensive environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects requiring collaboration across functional areas in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Capable of following a project through completion with minimal direction and strong personal initiative and serving as backup to fellow team members in the department

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific, business or related discipline
- Typically requires 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong quantitative analysis skills; experience running own analyses as well as partnering with analytics professionals and interpreting results.
- Comfortable with ambiguity; able to effectively structure problems and solution approaches based on experience and precedent.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills - able to synthesize and distill complex information into a compelling narrative.
- Proactive orientation - able to anticipate issues, engage with stakeholders and plan accordingly.
- Experience in one or more programming languages (e.g., VBA, R, SAS, Python) is a strong plus.
- Experience in data visualization is a strong plus (e.g., Power BI)
- Alternatively, individuals with a bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline only must have an additional 3 years of relevant work experience.
Pay Range: $111,800 - $167,700

This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements.
