Job Summary:
The Research Animal Resources and Compliance unit (RARC) is looking for an energetic individual to join our team of dedicated professionals who provide care for research animals on campus. Come be a part of the exciting research enterprise at UW-Madison and contribute to important discoveries that lead to better lives for humans and animals. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position reporting to the Attending Veterinarian. Responsibilities include providing veterinary care and clinical oversight to research species in biomedical settings, especially nonhuman primates. The selected candidate will also serve on an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and assist faculty and research staff with development of animal models and animal use protocol applications. The Veterinarian also assists in training programs for investigators, research staff, animal care staff, and other veterinarians; assists units in maintaining AAALAC accreditation, and provides surgical and postoperative care to research animals. Primary duties are caring for animals in the College of Letters and Science, including a colony of nonhuman primates. Responsibilities: Provides professional veterinary care to animals in research colonies, designs and implements programs, and provides expert guidance to research staff and animal care/use committees to support the wellbeing of research animals. Trains research staff on animal care principals, and may instruct or lecture students to promote safe and effective animal care principals.
