Job Summary:

The Attitude and Orbital Control Subsystems Manager is responsible for managing the safety of the AOCS for a constellation of Globalstar satellites of multiple generational designs. They serve as a subject matter expert on AOCS sensors and oversee their direct reports. The AOCS Manager monitors satellite AOCS in real time, responds to on-orbit anomalies, and conducts investigations of satellite anomalies to help predict future performance. They write, test, and implement satellite procedure scripts.

Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train direct reports
  • Oversee the work and assignments of direct reports
  • Provide constructive and timely performance feedback
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy


Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Manage the health and safety of the satellite Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystem (AOCS) for a constellation of Globalstar satellites of multiple generational designs
  • Serve as subject matter expert on AOCS sensors such as earth sensors, sun sensors, magnetometers, star trackers, and rate gyroscopes; and AOCS actuators such as magnetic torquer bars and reaction wheels
  • Monitor satellite AOCS in real time and respond to on-orbit anomalies
  • Conduct investigations of satellite anomalies and trend the AOCS to predict future performance
  • Write, test, and implement satellite procedure scripts

  • Must be willing to work outside of normal working hours to support satellite launches, orbit raising, and anomaly recovery
  • Willingness to serve on an on-call rotation
  • Ability to mentor junior satellite engineers
  • Ability to travel at times
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Satellite Tool Kit, MATLAB, and Python


Education, Experience, and Licenses/Certifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience
  • Ten or more years relevant experience, preferably in satellite fleet management


Physical Requirements:



  • Willingness and ability to travel as needed
  • Willingness and ability to work after regularly scheduled hours as needed
  • Ability to sit at a desk for prolonged periods working on a computer (4 to 8 hours)
  • Ability to operate the equipment used for the job
  • Ability to lift 15 pounds at times
