Job Details

A registered perioperative nurse who manages the planning, organizing and directing of the specialty assigned. Have day to day responsibility for coordinating theatre activity and ensuring efficient utilization of operations on daily basis. Coordinate the daily functions of the specialties assigned to in the Operating Room, maintaining an efficient turnover. Identify and manage change within the service to ensure continuous improvement. Act as a role model in providing strong clinical leadership and complex caseload management underpinned by sound evidence of clinical practice.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs within the legal framework of the nursing profession as defined by the Nurse Practice Act of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Works with surgeons to plan patient care needs through assuring equipment and supplies are available and functioning prior to the start of each procedure, while training and mentoring staff for the service
Undertakes the assessment, planning and implementation of complex surgical cases, needed for patients/clients with complex care needs including individuals with undifferentiated and undiagnosed conditions.
Develops, implements and evaluate programs of care to meet these needs of complex surgical patients.
Guides, advise and direct junior and senior staff and learners in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patients' surgical care.
Act as a point of contact for staff members, residents, fellows and surgeons for specialist advice and support.
Key Responsibilities:
* Scheduling and Coordination:
Review of surgical schedules to manage the order of cases and the patient flow within the OR.
* Supply and Equipment Management:
Ensures adequate supplies and equipment are available for the service line procedures and collaborates with the OR inventory coordinator and vendors to ensure surgical instrumentation, specialty supplies and implants are available to support procedures.
* Patient Safety:
Ensures/provides a safe environment for patients and staff, including proper equipment maintenance, infection control protocols, and adherence to safety regulations.
* Collaboration:
Works with surgeons, PAs, residents, nurses, and other OR staff to ensure smooth and efficient surgical procedures.
* Documentation and Record Keeping:
Maintains accurate records of surgical procedures, equipment usage, and patient information.
* Quality Improvement:
Participates in activities to improve OR efficiency, patient care, and safety.

* Patient Flow Coordination:
Ensuring efficient patient movement through the OR, from pre-op to post-op and facilitate with turnover of surgical cases.
* Resource Management:
Managing and ordering supplies and equipment needed for surgeries.
* Staff Support:
Providing support and training to OR staff, including nurses, technicians, and other personnel.
* Compliance and Safety:
Ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, maintaining a safe and sterile environment, and participating in safety initiatives.
* Quality Assurance:
Implementing best practices, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and monitoring performance metrics.
* Equipment Management:
Overseeing the maintenance, repair, and calibration of OR equipment.
* Communication and Liaison:
Acting as a liaison between the OR staff, surgeons, other departments, and patients.
* Administrative Tasks:
Completing various administrative tasks related to scheduling, documentation, preparedness for surgical cases and the acquisition of quotes to replace equipment or purchase new equipment, submit product & equipment requests for surgeons into the Lumere system for approval either for fast track or permanent adoption.
