TITLE: Quality Engineer
STATUS: Full-Time, Salary, Exempt

WORK LOCATION(S): 901 Broadway Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504, and/or 1040 Eastern Ave, Grand Rapids, MI 49508

POSITION SUMMARY: Main point of contact with American Seating OEM customers to support concern response. Manages internal team to support customer corrective and preventive actions. Prepares, revises, implements, and trains internal team related to Quality Systems. The Quality Engineer will focus on meeting company goals and objectives that align with reducing customer complaints and increasing customer satisfaction.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Develops, implements, maintains, and trains on quality systems.
  • Communicates ISIR/PPQR submission requirements for supplied products/processes.
  • Works with Supply Chain personnel to coordinate ISIR/PPQR submission approval with suppliers.
  • Leads customer concern containment activities internally and externally at customer locations.
  • Coordinates containment activities with Field Service team at OEM and warehouse locations.
  • Facilitates internal concerns review to drive timely root cause analysis and permanent corrective action with American Seating product.
  • Performs internal product/process layered audits as scheduled to support continuous improvement.
  • Performs internal audits on processes or procedures as scheduled to support sustainable quality systems.
  • Assists Supply Chain personnel with supplier related quality issues as directed.
  • Reads, evaluates, and submits recommendations on design records to improve part and process quality to support customer concern resolution.
  • Reviews and investigates customer return for potential root cause. Communicates findings to relative American Seating team to support corrective and preventive actions.
  • Supports manufacturing with product and process problem-solving as needed.
  • Manages Return Goods Authorization (RGA) process for customer returns.
  • Participates in product launch to assist Manufacturing and Applications Engineering to ensure successful transition to manufacturing team.
  • Support and direct QA inspectors as required.
  • Executes training of quality processes for American Seating associates as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, business related field or extensive experience in transportation related industry in lieu of formal degree.
  • Four to six years of experience in quality, engineering, manufacturing, or related area.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management System certification process and requirements.
  • Understanding Quality related processes.
  • Understanding and ability to use measurement devices for product measurement.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to use various computer applications and software.
  • Ability to work with others jointly to accomplish company goals and objectives.
  • Strong problem-solving and investigation skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical documents related to products, testing and standards.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to computer applications.
  • Able to use Microsoft Office products.
  • Able to schedule and conduct virtual group meetings.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office and manufacturing environment (as needed) that may include heat, humidity, dust, and noise.
  • Extended work hours and weekends periodically required.
  • Ability to lift transportation seating items such as seats, seat frames, plastic seat modules, boxes, and barrier panels up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent keyboarding is required.
  • Work frequently requires attention to details. Frequent pressures related to meeting deadlines, scheduling requirements and simultaneous projects is required. Work is frequently affected by distracting influences such as people, calls, etc.
