Job Summary

Corewell Health is seeking a Director, Medical Staff Services. Reporting to the SVP & Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Medical Staff Services Director will provide leadership for central verification office (CVO) and Medical Services Office (MSO) for Corewell Health East. This role will be responsible for the integration of the credentialing functions for the system. The Medical Staff Services Director will manage the MSO work to establish streamlined and efficient processes for medical staff credentialing across Corewell Health East, ensuring consistently high standards. Key They will direct formulation and implementation of policies, procedures and standards to ensure credentialing and privileging functions are carried out in compliance with existing standards for professional practice and accrediting bodies, including the Joint Commission, Michigan Department of Public Health, NCQA and the Governing Body of Corewell Health. Collaborating with internal stakeholders with regards to standardization of processes and policies systemwide will be a key responsibility of the role.

Key Role Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction to Credentialing Manager, Medical Staffing Manager, System Data Base Administrator and Sr. Coordinator(s) and Medical Staffing Coordinators.

  • Accountable for all credentialing functions within the CVO, including knowledge of required regulatory and governance statutes.

  • Provides oversight and guidance to the credentialing and medical staff office teams.

  • Identifies and measures critical central credentialing performance metrics and benchmarks to continually improve operations.

  • Ensures credentialing and privileging compliance with applicable bylaws, CMS, NCQA, and Joint Commission standards.

  • Provides comprehensive documentation to the Joint Conference Committee (JCC) from site credentials and medical executive meetings.

  • Assures that medical staff services teams are staffed appropriately to meet internal customer needs and operational objectives. Reviews and provides final approval of payroll information. Assumes ultimate accountability for the recruitment, hiring, and performance monitoring, retention, initiating/follow-through with disciplinary action and termination of leadership team/staff in consultation with Human Resources. Monitors/coaches and develops leadership team/staff and act as a role model and resource to them.

  • Serves as a liaison to credentialing committees, credentialing chairs, chiefs of staff, VPMA's, Medical Group, and physician leadership.

Position Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in healthcare or business administration. Required

  • 5 years of relevant experience; 5 years progressive leadership experience in medical staff services, including medical staff credentialing and physician and physician relationship management. Required

  • ProviderCredentialingSpecialist, Certified (CPCS) - NAMSS or Professional Medical Services Management, Certified (CPMSM) -requiredin1 years of hire.

Preferred

  • Preferred master's degree in healthcare/business Administration or related field. Preferred
