DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Security Officer 1, you will be responsible for the protection of persons and property at the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home. Your duties will include working desk duty, monitoring the camera system, patrolling the grounds by car and foot, and making rounds of the buildings and grounds. In this position, you will complete assigned tours and check locks, make sure buildings are secure after hours, and document observations and actions by completing daily reports. You can expect to conduct investigations, direct and control traffic, and respond promptly to emergency calls. Additionally, you will assist visitors, residents and staff by answering telephones and giving directions and information, as well as assist nursing in locating and returning missing residents.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are determined from rotating shifts. with a 30-minute lunch.
    • 1st shift: 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM
    • 2nd shift: 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM
    • 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator's license.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience patrolling grounds, buildings, parking lots, and areas on campus by foot or in a state owned property
  • Education in police science, police administration, criminal justice, or in a similar discipline
  • Experience writing incident reports which includes a detailed narrative description of the nature of security violations/other incidents including but not limited to saving, archiving, and showing video through use of CCTV.
  • Experience orally communicating with all staff, visitors, vendors, residents, etc. including but not limited to answering the phone, assisting and directing visitors, announcing codes (fire alarms, medical emergency, etc.) over phones, pagers, or loudspeakers; and gathering pertinent initial information of incidents to report to authorized personnel.
  • Experience conducting interior and exterior inspections of buildings looking for and reporting fire hazards, safety hazards, leaks in ceilings and water systems, vandalism, damage, and evidence of theft.
  • Experience in the protection of property and persons from theft, fire and other safety hazards, and maintaining required security through the enforcement of rules, regulations and laws

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
