Principal Chemist

ChampionX, has an immediate need for a Principal Chemist located in Sugar Land, TX at our Chemical Plant. This is your opportunity to join a large growing company offering a competitive base salary and benefits.

What You Will Do:

  • Foster CHX's vision of a Goal Zero safety culture by working safely and ensuring others are working safely.
  • Troubleshooting in-process problem batches, including both reactions and simple blends, using instrumental data and knowledge of chemistry.
  • Participate in and contribute to root cause investigations for failed batches.
  • Prepare thorough reports for failed or atypically processed batches for use in future troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with Production and Engineering personnel to troubleshoot manufacturing processes for recurring problem batches.
  • Taking action to minimize the liability inventory by providing analysis and dispositions of non-conforming materials.
  • Facilitate the technology transfer process from Research to Pilot Plant to Plant for new products, including leveraging knowledge of chemistry to anticipate and prevent manufacturing issues.
  • Evaluate trends in specifications as they relate to product quality and, if necessary, recommend/initiate specification change requests for Marketing and Research to review.
  • Provide timely technical support to Sales and Marketing in the handling of field performance problems and customer complaints.
  • Trains plant personnel on relevant subject matter, including material that enhances others' understanding of product chemistry.
  • Performs any other duties relevant to company goals of Safety, Service, and Savings, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education/Work Experience: Degree or Advanced degree in a chemistry or related discipline. BS and 5+ years, MS and 3+ years or PhD and less than 2 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of fundamental physical/chemical properties and structural activity relationships
  • Working knowledge of statistics
