THE POSITION
-
The County Administrative Office is now seeking an experienced Public Affairs and Communications Manager to lead and manage the County's communications and public engagement initiatives. This position oversees the Public Affairs and Communications team and is responsible for strategic communication efforts that support the mission, services, and goals of the County. Key responsibilities of this position include:
- Planning, managing, and evaluating the activities of the Public Affairs and Communications team.
- Leading the development and execution of communications, marketing, and public relations strategies across a range of media.
- Ensuring timely and accurate public information aligned with operational goals.
- Coordinating internal and external communications and branding standards.
- Representing the County before boards, committees, media, and community groups.
- Facilitating community engagement and managing public feedback processes.
- Advising executive leadership on sensitive and high-profile issues.
- Providing strategic input as part of the office's leadership team.
- Managing media relations and public messaging during emergencies and key initiatives.
- Developing communications policy and overseeing the production of content across formats and platforms.
- Promoting a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all communications efforts.

Public Affairs and Communications Manager
Our ideal Candidate is a strategic and collaborative leader with deep knowledge of public relations, media communications, government operations, and public engagement strategies, and possesses the ability to craft clear, compelling messaging across a variety of platforms. This individual is skilled in managing teams, developing public information campaigns, and navigating complex political and community landscapes. They bring experience fostering positive media relationships, facilitating public involvement, and working effectively with diverse communities. With excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills, they can translate complex information into accessible content while promoting transparency and trust in local government.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree AND Five (5) years of professional experience in public relations, community outreach, communications, public information programs, or related work within a complex organization which includes at least two (2) of the five (5) years in direct service to the operational needs of a law enforcement or large land use/public works organization and supervision/management of staff.

- Driver's license valid in the state of Oregon and an acceptable driving record is required.
