Job Summary:



The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology, has an opening for a full-time Entry Laboratory Sciences Professional. The lab conducts translational research into the interplay of nutrient status, the redox environment, and immune function. We have active murine as well as human sample projects ongoing. Currently, multiple of our projects center on the importance of a particular micronutrient, Se, as well as Se-dependent antioxidant enzymes.

Responsibilities for this position will include managing patient samples, assisting with data collection, learning redox-related enzyme activity assays as well as methods to evaluate protein and RNA isolation from cells and tissue, Western blotting, reverse transcription, and QPCR. Duties will include general lab maintenance, record keeping, and occasional weekend hours will be required. The ideal candidate will be reliable, personable, highly motivated, and have demonstrated the ability to work independently when appropriate. This is an excellent opportunity to join a fast-paced, productive research group. This position is located in the Perinatal Research Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Key Responsibilities:



  • General lab maintenance; ordering, cleaning, organization of data (10%)
  • Manage sample collection; duties include coordinating the collection of plasma, urine, and stool samples from preterm infants, Redcap data collection, and logging. Occasional weekend hours will be required (30%)
  • Biochemical assays: western blot, PCR, ELISA, and measurements of oxidative stress as well as enzyme activity assays (60%)

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • BS/BA in biology or a related field


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Condition of Employment:



  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Redcap experience
  • Experience with enzyme activity assays
  • Experience with ELISAs
  • Minimum one course background in biochemistry


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Science research background
  • Basic computer and mathematics skills; Proficient user of Microsoft Office
  • Able to follow instructions
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work under the direction of multiple investigators

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

$46,274 to $58,861.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
