About the Department
The Perimeter College Department of Life and Earth Sciences includes a wide-ranging community of students, staff members and distinguished faculty scholars in the fields of biology, environmental science, geology and integrated sciences. We celebrate the diversity of our students, faculty and staff as one of our greatest assets.

Students taking courses in our department may go on to continue their education and prepare for careers in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields or health professions. Others pursue non-science educational goals and careers.

Our students exhibit diversity in their learning styles, as well. In response, our faculty use varied teaching practices and technology to engage them in learning, scientific reasoning and critical thinking.
Position Description
Perimeter College invites applications for a Limited-Term Instructor of Geology. The Limited-Term instructor positions are non-tenure track appointments offered on a semester by semester basis which may be renewed up to four (4) semesters. This is a teaching-focused position where 100% of the workload is instruction. Limited term instructors are responsible for providing 18 credit hours of instruction per academic semester (spring or fall) and maintaining weekly office hours.

Perimeter College faculty maintain a campus presence, and the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to early undergraduate teaching and learning, and the ability to thrive in a highly diverse academic setting. Perimeter College is a multi-campus institution therefore the teaching assignment may be on any of the college's campuses.

Required Education
A minimum of a Master's degree required in Geology or a minimum of a Master's degree with at least 18 semester or 27 quarter graduate hours in relevant coursework (completed by the anticipated date of appointment) is required.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • A Ph.D. in the teaching field is preferred.
  • College teaching experience. One year is preferred and can include experience as a teaching assistant at a college or university.
  • Experience teaching online asynchronous and/or synchronous and using a distance learning platform.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in high-impact educational practices, scholarship of teaching and learning, building college-to-career linkages, and/or other pedagogical initiatives that enhance student success.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in scholarship in the discipline and/or scholarship of teaching and learning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods with a demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology.
  • Ability to create a sense of belonging for a varied student population and facilitate student learning in both the in-person and virtual learning environments.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, organizational and computer skills (able to maintain appropriate records).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and adhere to deadlines.

  • Teaching 6 courses (combination of lectures and labs) per semester (fall or spring) in the instructional modality assigned (i.e. online asynchronous, on-campus face-to-face, hybrid).

  • Submitting grades, syllabi and other requests to the department on or before the deadlines assigned.
