SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting the Program Manager with resident relations, community outreach, shelter operations and maintenance. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Core Values Initiative: Self-starter requires minimal supervision, requests additional assignments or responsibilities; suggests and implements improved work methods. Attendance/Punctuality: Team member is on time and prepared for meeting with participants and stakeholders internal and external to the organization. Program Operations Resident Relations Attends to resident needs; ensures the shelter is a safe and peaceful environment through rule enforcement, conflict resolution and engaging residents in shelter projects and activities. Works with households to complete an application for services, checks and signs all forms. Conducts intakes (explains welcome packet, rules and responsibilities and move-in forms) Assists residents with maintenance and changeover of rooms Reads, contributes to and helps maintain the shelter log to communicate shelter issues with the manager and other shelter staff to coordinate services to residents Conducts exits (obtains completed exit surveys, has keys turned in and does final room inspections) Provides innovative, evidence based programming including occasional interactive workshops, supervising resident chores and providing mentoring Room inspections or other duties as assigned Community Outreach Maintains office services by answering phones, taking messages and providing information on the program and community resources Accepts and records donations; signs donation receipt forms Accommodates and direct visiting groups and those doing projects at the shelter Works with volunteer groups, having them sign volunteer waiver or application Writing out thank you notes (or providing address information so thanks can be sent) for donations, community meals or food donations and volunteer efforts Shelter Maintenance and Safety Assists with minor maintenance and upkeep to maintain the safety and security of the facility Monitors facility work schedules and duty rosters; completes related work as requested. Completes maintenance notes and documentation Effectively handles emergency situations that occur Routinely patrol the grounds To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. NON ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma/GED Knowledge of local social service resources LANGUAGE SKILLS: Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to establish rapport and relate sensitively to poverty/homeless issues. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Knowledge of basic math facts: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral or diagram form, to solve problems requiring decision-making skills within program parameters. Ability to use analysis and judgment in the adaptation and interpretation of established practices and procedures to meet problems and situations within clearly defined roles. Requires minimal supervision, requests additional assignments or responsibilities; suggests and implements improved work methods. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Access to reliable, licensed, insured driver and transportation required. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Excellent oral and written communication skills Proficient in operation of personal computers Ability to work independently as well as a team member. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The normal work environment is an interior office with occasional outside work required for snow removal, repairs to the property and resident relations.
