NURSING INTERN - ELECTIVE SURGERY DEPARTMENT - CONTINGENT/PRN - DAY SHIFT

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Shift: Days, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, 3/12 hour shifts per 6 week scheduling period minimum

Unit Description:

Henry Ford St John Hospital's 5 East Elective Surgery unit is a 20-bed unit specializing in post operative care. Our patient population typically consists of colon, urology, and gastro masses, cancer diagnoses, and some trauma patient overflow. Our typical nurse to patient ratio is approximately 5:1. We encourage continuing education and voluntary participation in unit committees, and are willing to train nurses of all levels of experience to be successful in this environment. • Under the supervision of a nurse, provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
• Completes assigned nursing orders as directed by preceptor, including assisting patient with activities of daily living and taking vital signs.
• Observes patient status and responses.
• Documents and reports observations to preceptor or other appropriate staff.
• Assists preceptor with development of care plan by reporting test results and patient observations.
• Performs other tasks as assigned, including environmental services and preparing/transporting patients for diagnostic services.
