Georgia State University seeks an experienced and forward-thinking Director of Faculty Human Resources to lead critical aspects of faculty HR operations within the Office of Faculty Affairs. With approximately 1,800 full-time faculty across six campuses, the Director plays a central role in managing faculty hiring, promotion and tenure processes, and related personnel actions in alignment with university and University System of Georgia (USG) policies.

The Director will oversee the implementation and training of faculty information systems and serve as a key advisor on HR policy, compliance, and process improvement. This in-person position supervises a team of professional staff and collaborates closely with academic leaders, college HR partners, and central university offices to support an efficient and consistent approach to faculty lifecycle management.

This is a professional staff role that requires exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to navigate complex institutional structures. Experience with faculty HR, preferably at higher education institutions of similar size and complexity, is strongly preferred, as is familiarity with processes related to faculty hiring, evaluation, promotion and tenure.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Director of Faculty Human Resources provides leadership in administering and advancing faculty HR operations across the university. Key responsibilities include:



  • Faculty Recruitment & Hiring: Oversee all aspects of faculty hiring processes including policy interpretation, university-level approvals, academic unit advisement and training, and process optimization.
  • Promotion, Tenure, and Faculty Review: Supervise procedures for promotion and tenure, post-tenure review, and related recognitions. Ensure policy alignment, coordinate approvals, and support unit-level training and process improvements.
  • Faculty Information Systems: Direct implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of faculty systems including Interfolio (RPT workflow), OneUSG (faculty data and contracts), PeopleAdmin (search and hiring workflow), and Digital Measures (activity reporting).
  • Policy Compliance & Advisement: Monitor compliance with university and system-level faculty policies. Advise senior academic leadership, including the Senior Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs (SAPFA), on emerging trends, compliance issues, and best practices in faculty HR.
  • Data Management & Reporting: Respond to complex faculty data requests from federal, state, system, and internal entities. Ensure data integrity for audits, institutional planning, and accreditation.
  • Faculty HR Strategy & Coordination: Lead planning and implementation of faculty HR initiatives, represent the Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) in cross-functional projects and committees, and collaborate with academic leaders to resolve faculty-related matters.
  • Training & Development: Lead and deliver faculty-focused training sessions and workshops (e.g., faculty hiring, promotion and tenure, non-tenure track advancement).
  • Personnel Actions Oversight: Review and verify all faculty personnel actions (e.g., hiring, promotion, pay changes, reappointments) prior to Provost review and ensure timely submission to the Board of Regents and USG as applicable.
  • Accreditation Support: Oversee credential documentation for SACSCOC and collaborate with OIE/IR on compliance reporting.
  • Supervision: Lead and support a high-performing team, including managers for Faculty Information Systems and Faculty Affairs, ensuring effective workflow and operational integrity.
  • Other Faculty Lifecycle Processes: Coordinate OneUSG faculty contract submissions, annual review/PTR uploads, Regent Professor notifications to the USG, and pre-review effort certification for sponsored project personnel.
  • Primary Liaison: Serve as the central point of contact for college deans, department chairs/directors, college HR officers, and faculty on all faculty HR and personnel matters.


Additional Responsibilities

Committee Service

* Contribute to development and updates of university- and college-level P&T and NTT promotion manuals.

* Serve on working groups such as the Faculty Data Working Group, GSU Unified ERP implementation team, and Institutional Base Salary (IBS) committees.

* Represent Office of Faculty Affairs on search committees and task forces as needed.

Ad Hoc Duties

* Advise Central HR on faculty-specific policies and attend HRO meetings.

* Manage Provost-level dual appointment approvals and mentor related staff.

* Process personnel actions for Provost and President's Office staff when requested.

* Serve as delegate for the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs or Director of Faculty Development when needed

Qualifications :

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:

Master's degree and seven years of related higher education experience ; or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:



  • Doctoral degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Minimum seven years of progressive experience in higher education, including faculty HR leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage university-wide systems and complex projects.
  • Proven supervisory experience with a track record of team development.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with faculty lifecycle systems (e.g., Interfolio, OneUSG, PeopleAdmin, Digital Measures).
  • Commitment to fostering equity, excellence, and innovation in faculty affairs.
