HIM/Medical Records Clerk

This position is an evening shift, Monday thru Friday, 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm, pay rate starts at $16.00/hour.

Oak Plains Academy is located on 20 acres of rolling hills in a rural setting, about 45 minutes from Nashville, Tennessee, Oak Plains Academy offers psychiatric residential treatment services to children and adolescents, struggling with emotional and behavioral issues. The Oak Plains Academy campus features a full-size gymnasium, separate academic building, and four dormitories.

Position Summary:

The Medical Records Clerk is accountable for providing quick and exact data processing services to the facility which may include entering incident reports, report preparation, printing and balancing data entered into the system, performing basic computer system maintenance, master file maintenance, managing requests for information, maintaining correspondence for reports made to state and federal governments. This role may include duties assisting in the input of camera review data, monthly leadership data and monthly fidelity data. The ideal candidate must have solid overall computer skills in MS Office, Outlook, Excel and the internet. Having a skillset in digital media and management is a plus - may be requested to fulfill needs beyond the scope data entry by supporting the overall medical records, milieu and nursing departments.

This position will also include greeting guests, answering phones, assisting patients, medical professionals and legal representatives with retrieving medical records within 72 hours, including printing, faxing and securely emailing. They will need to audit medical records for timeliness and accuracy of documentation. Organized and store charts, point sheets and other documentation both on and off site, as well as thinning charts of current residents as needed. This and assisting other associates with medical record questions and retrievals will be a major part of this role.

Ability to take minutes quickly and effectively as well as interpreting data to see trends. Must be organized, detail oriented and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

Equipments:

  • High school diploma or GED, preferred two-year Associate's degree that includes course work in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.

  • Two years general office experience, preferably in a healthcare setting in Health Information Management.
