*This is a fully remote Inpatient Medical Coder opportunity.*
You *must* have experience coding inpatient charts for an academic/teaching hospital using encoder. There is an open book coding assessment - you must have *access to encoder* in order to pass. Equipment is not provided, you must have your own work from home set up in a HIPAA compliant area. Candidates must reside in one of the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin. *Description* The Inpatient Medical Coder is responsible for accurately coding clinical services provided by physicians for insurance purposes, defending their audits, and writing queries to obtain additional information from physicians. This role requires proficiency in using EPIC Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and 3M encoder systems. Candidates must be adaptable to support various hospitals within regional and university facilities. Key Responsibilities: - Work Queue Management: Log in to work queues and apply appropriate codes to clinical services provided by physicians. - Audit Defense: Defend audits by providing detailed explanations and justifications for coding decisions. - Query Writing: Write queries to request additional information from physicians, which is then used to determine the best way to code clinical services for insurance purposes. - DRG and CDI Review: Review and question Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) queries, ensuring they do not affect Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) coding unless necessary. - System Proficiency: Utilize EPIC EMR and 3M encoder systems to perform coding tasks efficiently. - Facility Support: Shift between regional and university facilities to provide coding support as needed. Adapt to varying lengths of stay, typically averaging 3-5 days. *Skills* CCS, DRG, PCS, Inpatient Coding, Epic, 3M *Top Skills Details* CCS,DRG,PCS,Inpatient Coding *Additional Skills & Qualifications* The candidate should possess experience in academic hospitals, demonstrating the ability to handle high acuity cases and trauma situations. It is important to note that trauma centers are designated into five different levels. Additionally, the candidate should have experience in rehabilitation and long-term acute care (LTAC) settings, as well as inpatient audit experience. *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $41.00/hr.
