DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The Park Resource Ranger at Beltzville State Park undertakes a diverse range of responsibilities focused on public safety, facility protection, visitor assistance, and regulatory compliance. In terms of public safety and facility protection, the ranger patrols the park on foot or by vehicle to identify and address any issues that could endanger visitors' health and safety. This includes inspecting buildings and grounds for hazards, promptly rectifying any dangers, and reporting them to a supervisor. Additionally, you will also monitor visitor activities to ensure proper use of park amenities and secures buildings and equipment to prevent vandalism and theft. In the realm of visitor service, the ranger offers essential information about park facilities, activities, rules, and nearby attractions, while also providing emergency care, including CPR and First Aid, and assisting in searches for lost individuals.

  • Seasonal, full-time employment without benefits
  • Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch
  • Weekends, holidays, and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
  • This position requires all employees must obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent within 60 days of employment.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:
  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • In accordance with Act 153 of 2014 this position is required to complete Child Abuse, Criminal and Federal Criminal History Checks around the time of hire and thereafter every 5 years.
