JOB TITLE:

Spirit Squad Assistant Coach

JOB PURPOSE:

Assistant Spirit Squad Coach must assist the Head Coach in all phases of the Spirit Squad program. They must be capable of teaching athletes in a variety of methods, from demonstration to verbal direction. Assistant coaches working within UW should demonstrate compassion and concern for the academic and physical well-being of their Student-Athletes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist Spirit Squad with practices, games, and other squad events.
  • Attend & supervise select practices (2-3 per week), games and community events.
  • Assist Spirit Squad Head Coach with discipline & concerns with squad members.
  • Choreograph/teach/critique dance, stunt, and tumbling routines for games & squad performances.
  • Assess skills and assign team positions. Model non-discriminatory practices in assignment of positions.
  • Availability to travel with the squad on select away games and retreats.
  • Flexibility is a must as the schedule involves mornings, late nights, and weekends.
  • Assist the Spirit Squad Head Coach in any other tasks as assigned.
  • Monitor the academic progress of Spirit team members to ensure they are meeting the requirements of all student-athletes by working with the team's academic advisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma
  • Maintenance of CPR, AED and First Aid training required.
  • Have strong stunting and tumbling training/background and experience coaching or cheerleading with a collegiate program.
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and leadership skills.
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of a competitive collegiate cheer program. Possess knowledge of UCA/NCA nationals and University of Wyoming game day traditions as they relate to the Cheerleading Team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students AND administration.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Willingness and ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Travel may be required for away football games, postseason events, etc.
