ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking an Associate Data Engineer with the team responsible for designing, evaluating, and testing cutting-edge data analytics. As part of this team, you will be part of design, build, implement, and maintain data processing pipelines from various data sources. Your work will develop robust and scalable methods to transform data into a useful format for analysis, enhance data flow, and enable end users to consult and analyze data faster and easier.

This is a hybrid role based in Manassas, VA, requiring 2-3 days in the office. Candidates should be graduates with a degree in Information Systems or Computer Science and have a keen interest in manipulating data and drawing analytics out of it. Experience with Python, Spark SQL and cloud technologies is ideal for this role.

Responsibilities

    Data Infrastructure and Systems Development: Evaluate and test data infrastructures to ensure they meet organizational needs and goals. Develop and maintain systems that collect, process, and store data, ensuring they align with organizational directives.
  • Data Analysis and Modeling: Create models to classify and extract information from data, supporting novel analytical tasks. Analyze data to identify anomalies, trends, and correlations, providing insights for decision-making.
  • Collaboration and Problem-Solving: Work with various teams to translate business requirements into technical specifications and data pipelines. Identify and resolve routine problems, seeking approval for solutions when necessary.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 0-2 years' experience or equivalent experience (degree in information systems or computer science preferred).
  • Strong understanding of data infrastructure and systems development.
  • Experience with Python, Spark SQL and cloud technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and translate business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot routine issues.
  • Familiarity with data housekeeping, cleansing, normalization, and hashing.
  • Interest in natural language processing (NLP) software development.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify anomalies, trends, and correlations in data.
  • Effective communication skills to work with various teams and stakeholders.


Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for additional incentive compensation including regular merit increases and the corporate bonus program.
