Summary:
Responsible for capturing data from the medical records for the purposes of reimbursement, statistics, research/studies, resource allocation and benchmarking. Responsible for performing charge capture processes to ensure accurate and timely completion of facility charges for billing purposes. Such processes shall include, but not limited to: review and response to r/t CCI-MUE edits from pending or rejected claims, as well as review and response to billing and other staff related to charge capture assistance.
Responsibilities:
1. Performs and completes patient charge reconciliation against medical record documentation to ensure all necessary hospital charges have been captured in a complete and accurate manner prior to claim submission, when possible.
2. Identifies hospital charge errors, missing charges, or duplicate charges and properly rectifies patient medical record documentation and financial account information prior to claim submission, when possible.
3. Maintains working knowledge of and compliance with third party payer regulations and guidelines; and modifies work behavior and practices as necessary to comply with regulations and guidelines.
4. Participates in self-evaluation by making notes/comments in the Accountabilities section of the annual review, updating skills checklist, and mutually setting professional goals for achievement with the manager/shift supervisor.
5. Effectively explains procedures and protocols, demonstrates procedures and techniques, and answers questions when assisting with the orientation of new employees, the cross-training of co-workers and when working with students. Accomplishes routine and non-routine miscellaneous assignments in accordance with procedure or instructions, and time frames.

Education Requirements:
* Associate degree in healthcare; must be in a health care related field
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Coding Certification.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* 1-2 years hospital charge capture, physician office, or hospital setting/ or 2-3 years' experience allied health field.
