ERG is looking for a talented individual with broad environmental expertise to help manage and expand our growing business in Hawaii and the Pacific Islands. This individual will work to optimize our current relationships with our State and Federal government clients, identify and pursue new opportunities, manage locally based staff, work with our main-land based project managers and technical teams, establish a presence and build further relations with our Hawaii Department of Health customers as well as new customers, and ultimately grow our business consistent with our core values.
ERG is currently supporting the Department of Health and EPA with NPDES and SDWA program implementation, greenhouse gas emissions inventories, environmental monitoring, non-point source program implementation, and water infrastructure planning and optimization tasks. You will have the opportunity to work with our existing project managers and technical teams, while establishing and growing a physical presence throughout Hawaii and the Pacific islands, and especially within the Hawaii Department of Health and U.S. EPA Region 9. ERG envisions hiring one or more junior staff to assist with project implementation and you will be responsible for managing and mentoring these individuals.

Job Description:
  • Strengthen and expand relationships with the Hawaii Department of Health (DOH), U.S. EPA Region 9, and other local agencies
  • Lead environmental program implementation efforts, including NPDES and SDWA compliance, greenhouse gas emissions inventories, non-point source pollution programs, and water infrastructure planning
  • Manage and mentor a team of junior staff to support project execution
  • Identify new business opportunities aligned with ERG's core values and capabilities
  • Establish a physical presence in Hawaii, working closely with clients and stakeholders
Key Areas of Expertise
  • Candidates should have significant experience in at least one of the following areas:
  • Environmental permitting & regulatory compliance
  • NPDES program implementation, permitting, and enforcement
  • SDWA compliance, lead service line replacement, and source-water protection
  • Air quality and greenhouse gas emissions management
  • Environmental monitoring program development
  • Non-point source pollution control & best management practices
  • Water infrastructure planning and optimization
  • Cesspool identification and closure
Additional Areas of Interest
  • Public health program development
  • Environmental communications
  • Land-use planning and assessment
What We're Looking For
  • Permanent residence on Oahu (Candidates outside Oahu will not be considered)
  • Deep knowledge of environmental and public health programs within government agencies
  • Previous experience with the Hawaii Department of Health and its branches
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Understanding of federal and state environmental regulations
  • Ability to mentor staff, develop technical talent, and support business growth
Qualifications and Skills:
  • A degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Environmental Science, Civil, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Land Use Planning, or related discipline
  • 10 or more years of experience with environmental programs and associated regulations
  • 5 or more years managing technical staff, projects, and/or contracts
  • Superior organizational and project management skills
  • Superior communication skills and a willingness to represent ERG and our capabilities to both current and new clients
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work on multiple projects and meet tight deadlines, while providing quality client-ready deliverables
  • Willingness to travel to conduct field work
