About This Role

K-State Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for a LEARNING SPECIALIST in our Evans Student-Athlete Success Program, which is a full-time, salaried, benefits-eligible position.

An example of job duties includes but are not limited to:



  • Provide intensive academic support to an assigned group of student-athletes designated as having specific, specialized academic needs; development of study skills and individualized learning strategies. This includes one-on-one tutoring and skill building, evaluating, and monitoring academic plans for students, assisting students in developing self-advocacy skills and self-awareness; assist with providing appropriate referrals to the Student Access Center.
  • Work in tandem with fellow learning specialists to level and support all student-athletes who level into the specialized learning program; assist with diagnostic placement, testing and interpretation where needed.
  • Responsible for coordination of student athletes in Strategic Tutor Program. Assist recruitment and hiring of strategic tutors; assist with facilitation of payroll and other HR processes.
  • Responsible for training strategic tutors as it relates to study skills implementation and educational impacting disorders, including how Supervised Study Program functions. Work in tandem with Tutor Coordinator to determine a comprehensive support schedule for tutorial program.
  • Assist in development of appropriate study strategies/individualized learning strategies for tutors/mentors. Responsible for dissemination of daily/weekly reports to SAS staff members as it relates to strategic tutor sessions. Assist with overall program evaluation and effectiveness of strategic tutors.
  • Provide leadership and assistance with the Specialized Learning & Tutorial program overall. Assist with orientation programming, student-athlete development programming (Global Cats, Women Leaders, etc.); other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Master's Degree in special education, educational psychology, academic advising, college student development, curriculum/instruction, or closely related field.
  • Two years working as a learning specialist and/or in closely related position such as a graduate assistant/intern with time spent with learning specialist program, or in a closely related field.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of diagnostic placement testing/learning assessments and interpretation of disability documentation.
  • Experience using Teamworks Academics, Peoplesoft, or other NCAA/University learning software.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules, and experience working with NCAA student-athletes with documented learning disabilities.
  • Supervision experience and experience with tutor coordination and/or scheduling and training student workers.

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range

$40,000 to $44,000
