The Managing Director, Sales provides strategic leadership to develop and drive the company's sales strategy using data driven business insights to identify trends, address challenges, and capitalize on growth opportunities. This role will collaborate across all sales departments, the corporation, and enterprise to best position the company for expansion of existing and new business. The Managing Director, Sales provides leadership for all sales teams and is accountable for expense management, maximizing total shipments and revenue per shipment and other critical KPIs to achieve net profit targets. This role will develop and maintain a strong leadership team that will achieve results while promoting a culture of accountability, customer engagement, and collaboration.

Essential Functions

  • Participate on the Officer and Director Team as a key business partner in the creation and development of the company vision, strategies, business plans, initiatives, and programs and in making key business decisions. Build efficient, innovative, and flexible teams and provide senior leadership for management, staff, and the company to support short- and long-term business plans.
  • Develop organizational sales and customer engagement strategies to drive continuous and exponential growth across all customer accounts and industry verticals. Adjusts the overall sales strategy in response to market and internal trends.
  • Collaborate across departments, operating companies, vendors, and others to leverage knowledge of industry and vertical markets. Participate in strategic customer meetings, conference calls and other collaboration vehicles to promote an understanding of FXCC services and support account development.
  • Develop and participates in collaborative sales initiatives with FedEx operating companies.
  • Maintain expert level industry and vertical markets knowledge that align with organizational strategic initiatives. Establish and maintain relationships with industry influencers and key strategic partners.
  • Lead a high performing team by holding leaders accountable for results, promoting an environment of continuous learning, developing the next generation of leaders, and supporting a culture of experimenting and calculated risk taking.
  • Provide strategic leadership for the business' talent strategy including talent review, succession planning, performance management and talent development.
  • Develop annual sales plans and implements strategy to ensure attainment including collaboration with communications team on approach to marketing.
  • Develop and manage the department budget, ensure compliance, and addresses variances and other budget concerns. Builds and provides ROIs and proper justification for expenses beyond normal guidelines under T&E policy. Develops multi-year financial plan.
  • Lead the organization to make solid data-driven decisions by using financial projections, dashboards, scorecards, predictive models, and actual results to gauge the effectiveness of sales strategies that ensure the company achieves People-Service-Profit objectives and goals.
  • Provide direction to ensure FedEx Custom Critical complies with all Federal, State, Local and company regulations/policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, or related discipline required; 10 years relevant work experience will be accepted in lieu of degree

Job Experience

  • 5+ years demonstrated sales leadership including the work of others in a management capacity
  • 5+ years demonstrated financial responsibility for P&L ownership, strategic planning, and customer engagement required
  • 10+ years demonstrated transportation/logistics sales experience required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to travel extensively (>50%)
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Excellent presentation and negotiation skills
  • Uses data to inform decisions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Salesforce.com
  • Has or can obtain Secret Clearance
