Overview

Job Purpose

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) owns and operates the worlds most advanced financial networks that are tasked with carrying market data globally. Our Network Engineering team both maintains our networks and continually pushes the envelope with new technologies.

The successful Developer I will gain valuable experience with state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge technologies. This is an opportunity to learn how commercial network projects go from concepts to implemented solutions, as well as the operations of a global organization.

This role will have you joining our Infrastructure Development & Automation team where you will be working on our in-house automation platforms, advanced network monitoring tooling, and other internal development projects within the ICE Operations vertical responsible for building and maintaining infrastructure for the organization. You will be exposed to all layers of these tools as well as learning the enterprise SDLC processes at ICE. In time you will help support other teams' use of these tools and develop new features or improve existing ones.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain software that interacts with various network devices, tools, databases, market data feeds, and user inputs
  • Gather requirements from relevant stakeholders
  • Keep project stakeholders updated on progress
  • Help ensure an orderly release management and SDLC process is followed
  • Collaborate with other teams within ICE to ensure correct interoperability and timely delivery of project components
  • Create and maintain documentation of system components and operations
  • Write unit and integration tests that ensure system reliability
  • Help cross-train internal peers on new solutions and tooling
  • Take ownership of tools and sub-components

Knowledge and Experience

  • 1-3 years of development experience
  • Computer Science (or related field) degree or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of memory management, data structures, and performance characteristics
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work with others on both an ad hoc and project team basis, across organizational boundaries
  • Familiarity with GNU/Linux operating systems

Preferred

  • Development experience in one or more of the following languages: C++, Python, Go (golang), bash
  • Familiarity with kernel-bypass and direct memory access (DMA) concepts
  • Experience with low-level C++ memory management
  • Familiarity with the following network protocols and concepts: Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP, Unicast/Multicast transmission
  • Ability to work with JSON, XML, YAML, INI, and proprietary data interchange formats
  • Familiarity with SDLC planning software (e.g. Jira)
  • Familiarity with a DVCS (e.g. git) and working on a multi-member project utilizing such tool
  • Familiarity with CMake, makefiles, and the make utility
  • Familiarity with functional and integration testing
  • Familiarity with IT software build automation toolchains and components (e.g. Jenkins, Gradle)
  • Knowledge of applications and services offered by ICE/NYSE
  • Knowledge of trading software, order book logic, and general principles of market data consumption

Schedule

This role offers work from home flexibility of one day per week.

Illinois Base Salary Range

The expected base salary for this role, if located in Illinois, is between 92,700 - 133,900 USD. The base salary range does not include Intercontinental Exchange's incentive compensation. While we provide this range as general guidance, at ICE we compensate employees based on the skillset and experience of the individual. Regular full-time ICE employees are eligible for a suite of competitive employee benefits, including healthcare coverage (medical, dental and vision), a 401(k) plan, life insurance, time off, and paid leave for qualifying circumstances.
