Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver-The World's Most Experienced Driver-to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over one million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.

Hardware Engineering is a diverse, innovative, and collaborative group of electrical, mechanical, reliability, software and vehicle engineers. We design, build, and perfect the products which are the eyes and ears of Waymo's autonomous driving technology, and integrate those products into vehicle platforms. We're seeking curious and talented teammates to keep us moving in the right direction.

You will:

  • Design and develop antennas and RF systems for various applications, including millimeter-wave (mmwave) automotive radars, 60GHz LANs, and for lower-frequency wireless technologies such as 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, UWB, etc.
  • Experience in design and testing of E band or W band RF systems, RF hybrid modules, and antennas.
  • Conduct simulations and RF system-level modeling to optimize antennas, passives, and active devices for RF performance, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Build prototypes and conduct RF testing and measurements to validate antenna and RF subsystem designs. Must be able to design and/or modify compact antenna ranges and laboratory testbeds involving vector network analyzers, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Collaborate with other engineers (hardware, software, DSP, mechanical) to integrate antennas in RF systems and perform data analysis, troubleshooting and writing documentation.
  • Oversee NPI and mass production, ensuring designs are cost-effective, manufacturable, and reliable.

You have:

  • MS in EE and 10+ years experience in antenna and RF design
  • Solid grasp of antenna theory, design, and EM simulation tools eg. HFSS, ADS, Microwave Office
  • Experience with RF testing equipment (e.g. network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, anechoic chambers) and active/passive RF systems
  • Familiarity with various antenna types and RF circuit technologies (e.g. PCB antennas, various transmission lines, filter design, hybrid couplers, waveguide antennas, phased arrays, MIMO).
  • Knowledge of RF communication protocols and standards such as Wifi, Bluetooth, NFC, UWB etc.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

We prefer:

  • Ph.D. preferred
  • Experience with automotive industry or another industry with significant volume production
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance testing
