About This Role
The Senior Director Legal - Towers is responsible for mitigating legal risk and collaborating with cross-functional teams across the organization, often focusing on specific areas like compliance, while navigating the unique legal challenges presented by the tower industry. This role oversees a team of contract, real estate lawyers and compliance associates; provides strategic legal oversite on complex issues related to tower operations; manages master lease agreements, site license agreements, ground leases, easements and other tower-related agreements; manages tower compliance; and provides other legal support for the business.
- Providing leadership and direction to the tower legal organization, including the formulation of effective legal strategies, and support of legal functions such as real estate leasing, acquisitions, divestitures, compliance, and special projects.
- Providing high-level legal counsel on complex business decisions.
- Identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal risks associated with tower operations and developing proactive strategies to address potential compliance issues.
- Ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations across different jurisdictions.
- Leading the negotiation and drafting of complex commercial contracts with partners and vendors.
- Contributing to the development of innovative legal strategies to address emerging tower issues.
- Identifying legal risks, developing mitigation strategies, and counseling internal clients with respect to legal risks and mitigation strategies.
- Monitoring the effectiveness and compliance of the organization's practices, policies, guidelines, and procedures and working closely with the rest of the leadership team to ensure that documentation, communication, and training are delivered where appropriate.
- Following the close of the T-Mobile transaction, interacting with the company's a board of directors and the TDS legal organization.
Minimum Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree
- License to practice in any jurisdiction in the United States, a member of a state bar in good standing
- Extensive experience as a practicing lawyer with significant real estate contract experience
- Deep understanding of relevant legal frameworks, including regulatory and compliance regimes impacting tower operations
- Proven leadership skills with a successful track record of managing strategic partner negotiations and contract drafting from start to finish, including strong negotiation presence and the ability to manage teams of internal and external resources working towards a shared goal
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively advise stakeholders at all levels
- Strong business acumen and ability to translate legal complexities into clear business implications
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and proactively identify potential legal risks
- In-office (Chicago) with potential for 2 days/week remote
