What you'll do

In this important role on AlixPartners' Corporate Applications Services team, you will use your excellent customer service and business analysis skills to support the Legal team with primary responsibility for the Legal applications.

The Independent Contractor - Corporate Applications Senior Business Analyst - Legal, Compliance and Risk is a contractor role located in Southfield, Michigan reporting to Business Relationship Manager - Legal. Paid relocation is not available.

  • Work with internal customers to identify specific business requirements and determine system needs to ensure project deliverables meet customer expectations.
  • Translate business requirements into clear, accurate, and concise functional requirements.
  • Create processes, models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to be used by the Technology team in developing technology solutions.
  • Interview employees at all levels to analyze work procedures and operational methods. Document current and desired processes, ensuring all documentation is kept up-to-date and communicated to the relevant stakeholders on a timely basis. Maintain system documentation and incorporate requirements changes as they arise.
  • Interpret requirements, document program objectives, and ensure project milestones are met. Create functional specifications for delivering customer solutions. Assist with the development of process flows and training documents.
  • Actively drive value in story creation, estimation, sprint planning, daily standups, demos and retrospectives.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot problems. Collaborate with IT and business units to determine root cause.
  • Learn the systems and processes to serve as the subject matter expert throughout system implementations and ongoing support.
  • Maintain meeting minutes and decision logs along the project.
  • Participate in problem solving in areas such as system design, input/output requirements, and procedural flow between departments and/or business systems.
  • Provide technical assistance in designing reporting systems, forms and related business tools.
  • Develop and manage documentation to be used by vendors, users, and testing teams to support implementation and user support.

What you'll need



  • Bachelor's degree in a related area preferred. Related work experience may be acceptable in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum four (4) years of professional experience in IT technical services. Preference may be given to those who have continued to upgrade their skills through education and training.
  • Experience working directly with IT and business/functional team members to understand project concept, objectives and approach.
  • Knowledge of computer system capabilities, business processes, workflow, and understanding of software development life cycle.Agile experience is a plus.
  • Experience documenting and diagramming business and IT processes - familiarity with Business Process Model and Notation, Flowcharting, and understanding of core Business Architecture concepts.
  • Experience working in Risk/Compliance and implementation projects is a plus.
  • Understanding of ITSM, ITIL, SDLC concepts and frameworks - experience with practical application and implementation is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, including the ability to bridge functional and technical resources by communicating effectively with individuals of varying systems expertise.
  • Consultative, critical thinking, and analytic skills with ability to operate independently and build effective partnerships across multiple stakeholder groups while embracing agile values and principles and seek to improve team effectiveness.
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative, can work independently, and can work on projects requiring organizational and time-management skills while able to react and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Excellent attention to detail with exceptional documentation skills.
  • Must be process and detail oriented, but able to grasp the big picture. The ideal candidate would be a creative and innovative person with a demonstrated track record of collaboration.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools; Project Management tools desired.
  • Core working hours are generally 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday - Friday; willingness to work outside of normal U.S. business hours, and as unique projects/needs arise.
  • Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday.
