Summer 2025 Braddock District Internship Opportunity!

Supervisor Walkinshaw is accepting applications for a paid summer internship. College students residing in the Braddock District are encouraged to apply.

The intern will assist with a myriad of public service activities, which may include:
  • Coordinating events and meetings.
  • Assisting constituents.
  • Researching projects for Braddock District Supervisor James Walkinshaw and staff.
  • Updating lists, such as homeowner association (HOA) contacts.
  • Assisting with communications, including writing, graphic design, and social media
  • The intern should have enthusiasm for public service at the local government level and be able to work independently.

Preferred skills include:
  • Familiarity with Braddock District and Fairfax County government
  • Effective writing and verbal communications
  • Researching and reporting results
  • Technical skills such as: Excel, Microsoft Word, Canva, and databases
  • Foreign language ability
The intern will be expected to work a minimum of 30 hours/week, with weekly schedules negotiable. Braddock Office operating hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday with after-hours/weekend availability as needed. The District office is located at 9002 Burke Lake Road, Burke, VA, and is accessible by Fairfax Connector; a car is not necessary for internship eligibility.

Start and end dates are negotiable but will generally track with the student's summer break or summer semester calendar.
