DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Visitor Services Associate, you will function as a member of the education and outreach team and will be assigned to the front information desk. Within this role, you will provide superior customer service to visitors of The State Museum of Pennsylvania through a variety of methods including sales, interpretation, assisting with educational activities and programs, in addition to other visitor services. Some specific duties involve ensuring visitors are welcomed to the museum, informed of correct tickets prices and available programming, processed efficiently through ticketing, and are provided with a general orientation to the building, programs, and exhibits. It is essential to stay informed of current fees, exhibits, memberships, and programs in order to best assist visitors. Interested in learning more? - Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Wednesday - Sunday, with a 60-minute lunch. Work schedule may be subject to change.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Six months of experience in security or buildings and grounds maintenance work; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from a standard high school; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be willing and able to work in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
- You must be willing to work Wednesday through Sunday.
- You must have at least 6 months of experience working with the public in a museum, historical site, or in a visitor services.
- You must have at least 6 months of experience working with a point of sale system and cash handling experience.
- You must have at least 6 months of experience guiding groups or giving group tours.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Experience using a computer and Microsoft Office software including Word, Outlook, Excel and Teams.
- Experience working at a reception desk or welcome center interacting with the public.
- Experience in the customer service field.
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 40lbs.
- Any post high school education
Legal Requirements:
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
- Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
