DESCRIPTION OF WORK

During this internship, you will develop a strong understanding of computer and laptop operations while demonstrating essential skills such as teamwork, dependability, and safe work practices. You will have the opportunity to observe state inspections and gain insights into repair techniques and preventative maintenance strategies, as well as diagnosing and resolving issues with various types of equipment. Furthermore, you will learn how to connect laptops for diagnostic purposes and collaborate with certified mechanics on air conditioning system repairs, working closely with mechanics, operators, and administrative staff. Emphasis will be placed on the significance of adhering to work schedules, break periods, and PennDOT safety regulations, along with participating in daily safety discussions within the shop. Wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment is crucial, as is effectively communicating repair information to both mechanics and supervisors. Your responsibilities will include assisting Diesel Mechanics in troubleshooting and repairing chassis, driveline, engine, electrical, and suspension problems across a diverse range of equipment, while actively engaging with operators to understand and address their equipment-related concerns.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • If you are selected for this position, you will work directly with your workplace supervisor to determine a work schedule that coordinates with your school schedule.
  • Juniors - The internship would be for the 2024-2025 school year, and may include: summer 2025, and the 2025-2026 school year.
  • Sophomores - The internship would begin 7/1/2025, and could include: summer 2025, the 2025-2026 school year, summer 2026, and 2026-2027 school year.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Internship Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age.
  • You must be a sophomore or junior enrolled in High School during the 2024- 25 school year.

Additional Requirements:

  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
