Summary:

The Mechanical Project Engineer will function as part of a multi-discipline internal engineering team reporting to the Director of Detailed Engineering & Design. The Mechanical Project Engineer should have a thorough understanding of mechanical design requirements, metallurgical requirements, rotating equipment, and evaluation of pipeline facilities. The Mechanical Engineer should have familiarity with other disciplines (pipeline, instrumentation, electrical, etc.) needed for commercially driven capital projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for mechanical engineering and design including design criteria, material selection, and equipment sizing in compliance with codes and standards.
  • Develop PFDs, P&IDs, and mechanical equipment lists.
  • Act as part of the internal engineering team to execute engineering project deliverables for Project Managers consistent with Energy Transfer standards, specifications, and expectations. Ability to execute projects internally, working directly with Project Managers, other Discipline Engineers, Designers, Operations, and internal staff.
  • Read, understand, interpret, review, & prepare engineering drawings and technical documents (such as bill of materials, status reports, material variance reports or documents), and specifications.
  • Perform site visits to evaluate construction plans, existing equipment, and designs for capital projects.
  • Ensure designs involve constructability and operational reviews.
  • Provide written scopes of work for engineering and construction.
  • Proactively develop strong working relationships with Project Management and Operations' leadership and discipline contacts to promote excellent working relationships between Engineering, Construction and Operations.
  • Evaluate, recommend, design, and implement modifications to applicable procedures and processes to reduce the cost of detailed engineering.
  • Research and recommend new technology and equipment.
  • Track time and productivity for both project and process improvement work activities

Capabilities:



  • Working knowledge and experience of pump selection and operation including horizontal pumps, vertical pumps, and 'can' pumps, both centrifugal and positive displacement (PD) type.
  • Working knowledge and experience with compressor selection (including reciprocating, centrifugal, and screw-type) and operation.
  • Working knowledge and experience in the selection and application of gas and liquid pipeline valves (gate/ball valve, check valve, control valve, relief valve, actuators, etc.)
  • Working knowledge and experience with vibration analysis, hydraulics, and surge analysis and pipe stress analysis
  • Experience with industry standards 49 CFR Parts 192 and 195, ASME B31.3, B31.4, and B31.8, all applicable API standards, OSHA, and welding codes and standards.
  • Ability to calculate minimum pipe wall thickness and pipe grade requirements, calculate internal design pressure, size pipe, calculate external loading, and size relief valves.
  • Knowledge of other engineering disciplines (i.e., foundation design, electric motors & motor control, metering, building design, heat exchangers, separators and other associated equipment for pump and compressor station installations, conceptual engineering and design systems associated with compressor and pump facilities)


Minimum Requirements:



  • BS in Mechanical Engineering required
  • 0-15 yrs. applicable experience in pipeline industry
  • Title conferred will be based on candidates' years of relevant experience.
  • Direct experience working for a third-party engineering firm is highly preferred.
  • Possess strong communication skills to support the building of relationships with project managers, sponsors and other internal project stakeholders
  • Experienced in project detailed engineering scope definition, cost estimating, and scheduling
  • Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including logical thought processes, with ability to resolve a complexity of issues. Has ability to be proactive rather than reactive.
  • Fast paced environment - must be able to support multiple projects concurrently
  • Good comfort level presenting information to all levels of management
  • Ability to read, comprehend and comment on technical specifications
  • Proficient with applicable technical software including Pipeline Toolbox, Navisworks, ProMax, BlueBeam (or equivalent), etc.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.


Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:



  • The Engineer level requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 3-6 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Senior Engineer level requires a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 6-10 years of relevant job related experience
  • The Staff Engineer level requires Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 10+ years of relevant job related experience
  • The Principal Engineer level requires Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 12+ years of relevant job related experience with a strong preference for a PE license

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office working conditions.
  • Occasional overnight travel and site visits may be required.
