Nature of Work:

The University of Colorado College of Nursing is seeking a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) / Instructor/ Senior Instructor / Assistant Professor (Open Rank) in the Non-Tenure Clinical Practice Track for a Full time (1.0 FTE) benefits-eligible position with its CU Center for Midwifery (CFM) faculty practice in Lone Tree, Colorado. This is a full scope position including antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, well woman and gynecological care. This position is clinically based as a health care provider and includes an instructor-level, non-tenure clinical practice track appointment in the College of Nursing. The University of Colorado, College of Nursing currently has four academic midwifery faculty practices and a midwifery education program.

Faculty Practice Description:

The CU Center for Midwifery at Lone Tree is a private practice model that works collaboratively with the OB/GYN physicians on staff. We offer patients and families many services including individualized care, alternative labor/birth options, with referrals to childbirth education, lactation services, and provider groups within the system and community. The practice provides full-scope midwifery care to patients at the UCHealth Lone Tree Health Center and UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital. CFM believes that people benefit from personalized and comprehensive care that focuses on the patient while including the family in the plan of care. The CNM will be part of a midwifery service that has a long and successful history within the University of Colorado system. The practice actively participates in practice development, practice promotion and interdisciplinary committees within the UCHealth system. The CU Center for Midwifery at Lone Tree currently consists of 4 Certified Nurse-Midwives.

Supervision Received:

Work is performed independently under the direct supervision of the CFM Lone Tree APN Clinical Lead.

Supervision Exercised:

Student supervision is required during clinical placements.

Examples of Work Performed:



  • Provide full scope care to the gynecologic, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum client
  • Provide care in the outpatient clinic, triage unit, and intrapartum unit
  • Utilize limited obstetric ultrasound skills in the outpatient and inpatient setting
  • Serve as first surgical assist at cesarean sections
  • Attend bimonthly practice meetings and participate in at least 1 practice and/or College of Nursing committees.
  • Educate health care team students (APNs, medical students, residents) and actively participate in student evaluations.
  • Participate in practice development, promotion, and community outreach.
  • Maintain presence through team building activities and service line presentations.
  • Active participation in health plan contracts.
  • Remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.



Work Location:



Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Lone Tree, CO.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor or Assistant Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:

Minimum Qualifications - Instructor:



  • Master's degree in midwifery from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Current AMCB certification.
  • Current RN, APN and RxN licensures in good standing (Any State) or applicable certified midwife professional license.

    • Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have Colorado licensures by date of hire.


  • Two years of full-scope midwifery experience.


Minimum Qualifications - Senior Instructor:



  • Master's degree in midwifery from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Current AMCB certification.
  • Current RN, APN and RxN licensures in good standing (Any State) or applicable certified midwife professional license.

    • Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have Colorado licensures by date of hire.


  • Two years of full-scope midwifery experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership in area of practice.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with academic colleagues and students in practice activities.


Minimum Qualifications - Assistant Professor:



  • Master's degree in midwifery from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Doctoral degree in nursing, midwifery, an appropriate area of science, or a related area from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Current AMCB certification.
  • Current RN, APN and RxN licensures in good standing (Any State) or applicable certified midwife professional license.

    • Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA-Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have Colorado licensures by date of hire.


  • Two years of full-scope midwifery experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership in area of practice.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with academic colleagues and students in practice activities.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Current, active DEA licensure
  • Experience in alternative labor/birth options
  • Experience as Surgical First Assistant for C-sections


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Conditions of Employment



  • Must be willing and able to obtain current AMCB certification by date of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to provide full scope contraceptive services and counseling on abortion services.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain Colorado RN, APN, RxN licenses or applicable certified midwife professional license by date of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain current board certification as a midwife by date of hire
  • Must be willing and able to obtain current DEA license within 18 months of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain valid NPI number by date of hire
  • Must be willing and able to obtain valid Colorado Medicaid Provider number by date of hire
  • Must be willing and able to complete CAQH and all credentialing requirements prior to by date of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain current BLS/CPR certification by date of hire.
  • Must be willing and able to actively participate in health plan contracts.
  • Must be willing and able to remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.
  • Must be willing and able to work in a normal patient care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.
  • Must be willing and able to work four shifts per week.
  • A shift is either a 12-hour call (from home) or an 8-hour clinic day.
  • Must be willing and able to be within 30 minutes of UCHealth Highlands Ranch Hospital when on call.
  • Must be willing and able to work extra shifts if and when necessary to cover practice needs.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$99,511 - $107,165 annually at Instructor of Clinical Practice/CNM,

$100,506 - $108,236 annually at Sr. Instructor of Clinical Practice /CNM

$101,501 - $109,308 annually at Assistant Professor of Clinical Practice /CNM

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
