Dive into Leadership: Join the SHARKS Swim Team at the YMCA of the North Shore!

Are you a natural leader with a competitive spirit? Do you have a background in swimming or aquatics that you're ready to take to the next level? If so, this is your opportunity to make a splash! The YMCA of the North Shore is seeking passionate Swim Coaches to join our dynamic SHARKS team. This position is for the Ipswich YMCA.

About the SHARKS Team

The SHARKS is a YMCA/USA Swim Team spanning six locations across the North Shore, including Beverly, Gloucester, Haverhill, Ipswich, Salem, and Marblehead-just a short distance from Boston. Our team includes:



  • Over 300 competitive age-group swimmers (ages 5-18) of varying skill levels
  • 50 pre-competitive swimmers
  • Up to 70 Masters Swimmers


Your Role as a Swim Coach

As a Swim Coach, you'll play a key role in inspiring and developing swimmers, fostering a love for the sport through high-quality instruction and encouragement. Your responsibilities will include:



  • Conducting group practices tailored to skill levels
  • Analyzing swim techniques and providing constructive feedback
  • Creating individualized swim programs to help athletes achieve their goals
  • Educating swimmers on proper techniques and styles
  • Overseeing training and ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment

Qualifications


  • Schedule is Mid afternoon, around 10 hours per week


Candidates should have:



  • 2 years of swim coaching experience or experience as a competitive swimmer
  • Knowledge of stroke technique
  • The ability to write workouts
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a positive attitude
  • Coaches should have or be willing to obtain (all training expenses are paid)
  • USA Swimming Coaching Certifications
  • CPR & First Aid certifications.
  • Current Lifeguarding certification or have completed the Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches.
  • YMCA Principles of Competitive Swimming is preferred, or can be obtained during the 3 months of hire.
  • Competitive swimming experience is preferred but not required.
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience
