We have an immediate opening for a Head, Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) / Director, Medical Training for our Pain division. This is a field-based position that requires ability to travel over 50 %.

Head, Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) / Director, Medical Training, Pain therapeutic space is responsible for field leadership of a small MSL team. Collaborating closely with, and reporting directly to, VP/Medical Affairs in developing medical strategic and tactical plans the incumbent supports and assists MSLs in plan implementation and execution at the regional level for execution globally across the medical community and within each assigned territory. She/he also develops relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and other industry stakeholders to educate and provide valuable insights. The incumbent provides MSLs guidance, coaching and mentoring through regular communications, field visits, documented feedback and performance reviews.

The Head, MSLs / Director, Medical Training demonstrates the highest ethical and professional standards with all business contacts to establish and maintain excellent reputation within the medical and pharmaceutical community.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adheres to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, processes and compliance guidelines and ensures knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements to appropriately respond to medical inquires, disseminate scientific information and report Adverse Events (AEs) and Product Quality Complaints (PQCs)
  • Collaborates with VP/Medical Affairs to ascertain and secure resources and support needed for plan implementation; Makes effective resource allocation decisions and ensures proper utilization of resources by team members; Guides, directs, trains, coaches and mentors MSL team(s) through training, field visits, actionable, documented feedback and assessments; performance and talent reviews, etc., as appropriate
  • Oversees MSL interactions, internally and externally, around dissemination and interpretation of clinical/medical data and information to ensure highest ethical standards and compliance with law, regulations, guidelines and policies
  • Assists VP, Medical Affairs with development of medical strategic and tactical plan; Collaborates with Senior Leadership and MSL team members in development of regionally specific medical engagement plans for scientific exchange with prioritized stakeholders in support of Medical Affairs strategies; Works closely with Account Management to develop the Medical Value Strategy and execution
  • Establishes strategic relationships with KOLs, Centers of Excellence (COEs), Patient Advocacy Groups and Health Care Providers (HCPs) to inform medical strategy; Conducts regular KOL and emerging customer assessments ensuring appropriate HCP and decision makers are appropriately engaged; Monitors development of specific medical engagement plans for scientific exchange with prioritized stakeholders in support of Medical Affairs strategies
  • Coordinates MSL support for clinical activities and investigator-initiated research (IIR); Coordinates MSL support for medical information, medical communications and data dissemination ensuring impactful and professional manner; Establishes and/or enhances partnerships with key academic institutions
  • Contributes to asset development including, but not limited to: slide decks, posters, educational videos, booklets, etc.; Presents data on product/therapeutic area
  • Develops and maintains a highly relevant, goal oriented strategic training program including, but not limited to: new hire medical training, recurrent training and additional development programs; Identifies and leads design and delivery of medical training to improve competency of Medical Affairs team

Requirements

Minimum education and years of relevant work experience REQUIRED

  • Advanced degree in medical/biosciences (i.e., MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, etc.) and minimum 8 years MSL experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology or related industry in positions of increasing technical and strategic responsibility
  • Excellent working knowledge of regulatory and industry standards related to Medical Affairs role including Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office of Inspector General (OIG), Pharmaceutical Researchers and Manufactures of America (PhRMA), etc.)
  • Expertise in pharmaceutical compliance laws, regulations and guidelines related scientific communications, as well as industry best practices related to MSL activities
  • Experience leading Medical Affairs training initiatives adhering to adult learning principles
  • Proven track record of establishing, maintaining and enhancing effective and successful relationships with KOLs in appropriate therapeutic areas
  • People management experience
  • Ability to influence without direct authority
  • Valid US driver's license and clean driving record
