Facilities Maintenance Worker

Department: Community Reintegration Center

Full-time, Hourly

Salary Range: $28.19 - $32.20/hr

Job Summary

This job supports and completes activities related to the repair and maintenance of the buildings and grounds called the Community Reintegration Center (CRC). The objective is to respond to requests for repair and preventative maintenance required and requested by staff of the facility. The position exists to maintain the facility in a safe and secure environment for the staff and inmates to work and live.

Schedule: This position will train on 1st shift from 7am-3pm. After training they will work 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday working every seventh weekend.

Job Responsibilities



  • Lawn Maintenance and Landscaping - Cut grass, weed whip around facility and grounds, apply chemicals around grounds. Trim trees and bushes. Maintain retention ponds and parking lots.
  • Work Orders - Work orders or emails generated by staff for requests for service or repairs in the facility.
  • Snow Removal - Snow plowing and salting of parking lots, roadways, and sidewalks. Operate large plow trucks, loaders, and smaller snow removal equipment around the facility to keep roadways and sidewalks safe for staff and visitors to the facility.
  • Assist Contractors and Other Visitors/Vendors - Assist contractors working in facility, monitor tool control and security of contractors and vehicles.
  • Special Projects - Assist supervision in implementing new ideas and programs throughout the facility (i.e., female paint crew, female grass cutting crew).
  • Laundry Equipment Repair - Maintain and repair daily large production laundry plant. Preventative maintenance of the laundry plant equipment and air handling units powering laundry plant along with water softening systems for laundry plant, along with lighting and security systems.
  • Recycling Center - Create new recycling center at the CRC to recycle materials rather than disposing of it in trash compactor. Collect recycling from other county facilities to save on cost of removal and to generate cash flow from recycling of valuable materials.
  • Ability to safely and properly operate: dump trucks, plow trucks, loaders, forklifts, transport vans, buses, power tools, hand tools, power washers, pallet jacks, compactors and computers.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.; ability to push and pull up to 200 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Required License/Certification, Education and Experience



  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin upon application required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required and must be maintained throughout incumbency
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • One (1) year or more work experience in Facility Maintenance, Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical or HVAC required



Preferred License/Certification, Education and Experience



  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred
  • Pesticide Applicator License preferred
  • Forklift certification preferred
  • High lift certification preferred



The CRC is unique in that it houses over 2,000 people at any given time 24 hours a day. Requests come in at all hours and anytime of the week. Completion of requests are usually required immediately. Maintenance staff must assess a problem and implement a solution in a short amount of time. We pride ourselves on quick response and repair times, which are quicker than many other facilities are used to.
