Park Unit Coordinator (Various Locations)

Full-time, Hourly

Hourly Range: $30.81 - $36.76

Job Summary: Responsible for the oversight and day-to-day supervision for operation and maintenance of a park unit to ensure quality facilities and amenities and a safe environment; preserve and enhance department assets; ensure quality service and product delivery.

Work Schedule: Candidate must have availability to work days, evenings, nights and weekends as needed.

Job Responsibilities:



  • Park and Facility Maintenance - Oversees day-to-day care and maintenance of parks, facilities, and parkways. Maintain turf and grounds by including, but not limited to, mowing, snow plowing, edging, mulching, trimming, and shoveling. Maintain facilities including cleaning, minor repair, and rental preparation.
  • Personnel Management - Participate in and recommend hiring of park operations staff and provide daily supervision including job assignments, performance appraisals, workforce development, and establishing priorities to ensure the success of the park operations unit and the department's strategies.
  • Administration - Process purchase requests, inventory supplies, and work orders. Review contracts and agreements. Assist with project management and priorities, maintain logs, prepare specialized plans, reports, and audits. Ensure relevant safety codes and regulations are followed.
  • Budget Management - Prepare and monitor annual unit budget to ensure responsible fiscal management.
  • Equipment Maintenance - Inspect and maintain all equipment and tools related to the performance of job duties.
  • Special assignments and projects - Participate on special project teams and community outreach efforts.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to operate vehicles properly and safely, heavy machinery, mowers, skid steers, hand/power tools, computers and general office equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Required Education, Licenses/Certifications and Experiences:



  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin at the time of application required
  • Valid State of Wisconsin Driver's License required and must be maintained throughout incumbency
  • Associate degree or higher in Land Management, Parks & Recreation, Turf Science/Management, Horticulture or closely related field.
  • At least three (3) years of Park Maintenance work experience required.
  • In lieu of education, candidates with a High School Diploma or G.E.D. and at least five (5) years of Park Maintenance work experience will also qualify. Please note: a successful completion of a Supervisory Management course within 12 months of employment will be required.
  • One (1) year or more of Supervisory/Management experience required.
  • Valid "Class B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake Endorsement required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment
  • Category 3.0 (Turf & Landscape) Pesticide Applicator license required or must be obtained within six (6) months of employment



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree or higher preferred
  • Valid "Class A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred
  • Small equipment maintenance and repair experience preferred
  • Snow plowing experience preferred



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to supervise/manage multiple staff members; ability to make decisions and resolve issues or complaints; ability to operate vehicles, tools and equipment as well as train staff on how to operate same equipment; knowledge of park functions, operations and maintenance; computer and clerical skills; ability of work with volunteers, visitors and the general public.
