Assistant SBDC Director

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Assistant Director is a position reporting to the SBDC Director. The incumbent will work closely with the SBDC Director to develop and implement the center's strategic plan as well as represent the SBDC at regional, state, and national meetings and/or conventions. The incumbent will also be responsible for SBDC operations such as managing students, marketing SBDC training programs, preparing semi-annual and annual reports, and maintenance of the management information systems and equipment. The Assistant Director will be responsible communication between the SBDC and its stakeholders.

In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for managing and growing the SBDC's Educational Programming. This will include developing and implementing strategies to attract clients as well as funding. Responsibilities also include personnel and contract reports. The incumbent will be responsible for developing the program budget, marketing, and recruiting and managing both staff and students in addition to meeting contract deliverables and preparing reports.

In addition, the incumbent will provide business consulting services to a small portfolio of existing businesses. In order to effectively provide these services, they will need to develop relationships with local businesses and other economic development agencies in order to heighten the profile of the SBDC, the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence, the Innovation Institute and the University of Pittsburgh. This may include attending networking functions and conducting presentations including business seminars.

Job Summary

Assistant Director works closely with the SBDC Director in developing and implementing the strategic plan as well as represent the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at regional, state, and national meetings and/or conventions. Responsible for operations such as managing students, marketing SBDC training programs, preparing semi-annual and annual reports, and maintenance of the management information systems and equipment. Responsible for communication between the SBDC and its stakeholders.


Essential Functions

Must be able to present to groups (large and small) regarding services and capabilities. Must be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders, sponsors, and business leaders through email, phone and personal interactions. Must be able to perform all office duties (answer the phone, greet incoming visitors, type, etc.). Must be able to lead various projects and manage daily tasks to completion.


Physical Effort

Must be able to independently travel to locations throughout Western Pennsylvania for site visits, open houses, meetings, programs, etc.
