Job Title: Payroll Specialist
Clearance Required: N/A
Work Location: Hybrid; Washington, DC Metro Area (Onsite a couple of times a month)

Alpha Omega is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage and process payroll for our company's employees, many of whom work on government contracts. The successful candidate should have experience processing payroll in the government contracts industry with exposure to Deltek Costpoint v8.2 and UKG Pro payroll services.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Timekeeping and Attendance: Maintain Deltek Costpoint Time and Expense module, labor charging profiles, and leave tables. Promote required timekeeping practices and maintain timesheet records. Accurately calculate earnings, overtime, and leave accruals.
  • Systems Operation: Prepare and process semi-monthly payroll utilizing Deltek CostPoint v8.2, accounting software and UKG Pro payroll software. Remain up to date with evolving issues, trends and system updates which impact accurate payroll processing.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, as well as regulations specific to government contracting. Maintain security of PII at all times.
  • Reporting: Generate payroll and timekeeping reports for internal use, as well as reports required by government agencies such as the Department of Labor or the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
  • Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll, including audits by government agencies or third-party auditors.
  • Communication: Address employees' payroll-related inquiries with information and guidance regarding the computation of their salary, wages and earned benefits such as Paid Time Off. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for process improvement and recommend best practices to streamline payroll processes that enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Training and Development: Staying informed about changes in payroll laws and regulations through ongoing training and professional development opportunities.


Required Qualifications:



  • Education:


    • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field


  • Experience/Skills:


    • 4 years proven experience as Payroll Specialist.
    • Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and payroll
    • Well-informed in application of FLSA and statutory earned leave
    • Proficient in MS Office and good knowledge of relevant software (e.g. Deltek Costpoint) and databases
    • Trustworthy with attention to confidentiality
    • Outstanding organizational skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Comfortable with payroll software and systems used by government contractors, such as Deltek Costpoint, UKG Pro or similar platforms.
  • Adherence to ethical standards and confidentiality regarding sensitive payroll information.
  • Capability to analyze payroll data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues effectively.
  • Capacity to troubleshoot payroll-related problems, address inquiries, and resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Effective time management skills to meet payroll processing deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving requirements, priorities, and deadlines in a dynamic government contracting environment.


Continuing Education: Given the ever-changing nature of payroll laws, regulations, and technologies, ongoing professional development and continuing education are important for payroll specialists. Attending workshops, seminars, webinars, and staying updated on industry developments can enhance skills and knowledge in the field

Salary and Benefit Information:

The likely salary range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
