Job Description

University of Missouri Human Resources provides leadership in the planning, integration, and implementation of human resource services and programs for faculty and staff across all campuses and the health system. Collectively with campus colleagues, we serve as a strategic and trusted advisor, support an inclusive and dynamic culture and workforce, and pursue continuous improvement through knowledge, collaboration and leadership.

The UM HR Retirement team has an overall responsibility for providing support, education, and stewardship for the University of Missouri Retirement Plans for all Faculty and Staff, including matters pertaining to the Defined Benefit Plan, the Hybrid Plan, the Defined Contribution Plan, Voluntary Retirement Plans, and Retiree Health and Welfare programs.

This position will have key responsibilities in the daily retirement functions carried out on behalf of the Board of Curators of the University of Missouri. This position will provide analytical oversight with calculating Retirement Benefits in accordance with the Retirement, Disability, and Death Benefit Plan as well as provide customer support to the department's daily functions. The following responsibilities are performed by a team of 3.0 FTE and are part of the overall Retirement Team, serving over 55,000 active and separated benefit recipients yearly.

Responsibilities

35% Analyze and calculate defined benefit and health & welfare benefit eligibility.

  • Calculate defined benefit pension creditable service & salary, and eligibility for benefits to which members are entitled under the Plan.
  • Calculate optional forms of pension payments.
  • Understand and maintain knowledge of legal plans and provisions to ensure compliance of processes and determinations.

25% Customer Service & Communication

  • Manage customer relations for all participants, active and separated, and plan beneficiaries by responding to routine and non-routine inquiries to provide counseling regarding Plan provisions, benefit entitlement, and options.
  • Provide excellent customer service and customer experience for all interactions. Maintain confidentiality and provide support to customers on sensitive issues.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert for escalated retirement inquiries and resolution problem solving.
  • Provide assistance to campus colleagues with specific plan provisions or retirement questions.
  • May conduct presentations for employees preparing for retirement and/or to educate retirees on plan changes.
  • May conduct individual retirement planning appointments to interpret and explain Plan provisions, benefit eligibility and options, and retirement process.

25% Voluntary Retirement Plans

  • Provide analytical support for the Voluntary Retirement Plans by determining eligibility, enrolling employees in elections, processing loans and distributions, and reviewing hardship and unforeseeable emergency requests.
  • Analyze and make appropriate updates in response to daily, weekly, or monthly reports.
  • May provide other assistance or back-up as needed.

10% Vendor and Cross Departmental Relationships

  • Work directly with current and legacy retirement plan vendors for various plan administration requirements (loan/distributions, reporting/auditing, hardships, etc.).
  • Work directly with University payroll, Benefits, HR Service Center, HRIS, Campus HR, HR Business Partners, etc. on various plan administration and auditing functions.

5% Other duties as assigned

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of the University of Missouri.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated analytical background and strong excel skills.

Ability to understand the UM Retirement Plans and interpret impact to faculty, staff, and retirees. Experience working with defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans.

Familiarity with university systems (PeopleSoft, Perceptive Content, RPAS) and policies.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $51,875 - $73,008 per year
Grade: GGS-010
