The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking talented and motivated candidates for an Engineering Supervisor, Civil/Structural Engineering - Renewables, within the Energy Solutions department. This role will focus on leading a subset of the solar and battery storage design teams' engineers and technicians to foster on-the-job leadership development and allow for additional and efficient team growth, while supporting projects. This individual will report directly to the Technical Manager, interacting closely with other corporate business units such as sales, marketing, account management and project management. The Engineering Supervisor is a self-starting technical leader with expertise in leadership, communication, and resource management.

What You'll Do

Project Technical Lead - 60%



  • Manages and/or performs structural engineering activities during the development, design and construction stages of multiple ongoing projects, as assigned.
  • Provides project oversight, including managing engineering scope according to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules.
  • Coordinates activities between multiple disciplines and project manager on complex projects.
  • Maintains high levels of quality and responsiveness to meet internal and external client requirements in alignment with company expectations.
  • Oversees design activities of team members.
  • Responsible for reviewing project drawings, calculations & specifications, assumes responsible charge as needed.


Management Responsibilities - 30%



  • Provides leadership and technical guidance for employees to aid them in achieving individual, team, department, and organizational performance goals.
  • Coaches, trains, and develops engineering technical staff for growth and development opportunities.
  • Provides assistance and direction to direct reports on all matters related to the team, department, and company business decisions.
  • Works closely with the Technical Manager to facilitate weekly team meetings (bi-weekly at a minimum).
  • Plans the workload for all direct reports and collaborates with other Engineering Supervisors and Technical Managers on broader group project resource planning.
  • Performs regular employee 1:1s, quarterly and annual employee performance reviews, training, and professional development for team members.
  • Actively supports and is engaged in attracting and hiring new talent.


Business Development Responsibilities - 10%



  • Participates and partners with members of the sales team and engineers throughout the organization to promote revenue growth and expansion of services with existing and prospective clients.
  • Supports proposal efforts by developing, providing resources, and reviewing proposals by working with the Proposal Development Team, Project Management group and other departments.


  • Manages, develops, and leverages existing client relationships by staying in regular contact with key clients.


What We Expect from You



  • B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent, required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE and/or PEng) or Structural Engineer (SE) registration required. NCEES Council Record, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire, strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of structural engineering experience required. Specific experience performing structural foundation design on utility scale solar and/or battery storage projects in a fast-paced consulting environment is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems and project executionas well as tracker, inverter, and BESS equipment suppliers is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of ASCE 7, IBC, AISC 360, and ACI 318 required. Understanding of ASTM test methods desired.
  • Proficiency in interpreting geotechnical data reports and estimating representative engineering properties of onsite soils, and the ability to effectively communicate associated risks to team and client required.
  • Proficiency in oversight and interpretation of pile testing is preferred.
  • Seismic design experience and proficiency required
  • Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Strong analytic and information management skills.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, public and external agencies.
  • High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations and timeliness.
  • Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills.
  • Displays a high level of initiative and explores new opportunities while understanding the risk to the organization.
  • Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty.
  • Must have the ability to travel up to 20%
  • Must have permanent authorization to work in the US.

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $125,400- $169,600
* Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role
