NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our people helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our team of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and the globe from our offices in Beijing; Bozeman, Montana; Chicago; New Delhi; New York; San Francisco; Santa Monica; and Washington, D.C.

NRDC is seeking a Summer 2025 Photo intern to work with the Multimedia/Comms team associated with our New York office.

Position Summary:

The intern will learn how to research, edit, and license photography and video, from a variety of resources (including stock agencies and photographers) for various end uses (e.g. editorial, social and digital advocacy & fundraising). They will learn how to maintain and contribute to a digital asset management (DAM) archive via Widen. They will also gain an understanding of the basics of photo shoot production process including how to find freelance photographers, and how to create shoot production timelines, call sheets and shots lists. This position will meet and collaborate with members of other Content Teams in Design, Video & Social, to experience how the Photo Team collaborates on projects.



Responsibilities

Some responsibilities of the intern could consist of:

    Assist with research, selection and licensing of stock photography, illustration for editorial, social and digital advocacy & fundraising photo & video projects.
  • Receive training in Photoshop editing techniques for basic color correction and resizing final files for digital delivery.
  • Assist with commissioning photo shoots. Receive training and oversight to create photo shoot production timelines, call sheets and shot lists.
  • Photographing evergreen content for the NRDC DAM (digital asset management) if applicable to candidate's skills.
  • Assist with research, selection and licensing of stock footage for use in social vertical videos.
  • Receive training in basic video editing and/or design if applicable to candidate's skill set.
  • Gain an understanding of how Design, Video and Photo Teams collaborate on creative storytelling.


Qualifications

Required:

Commitment to NRDC's mission and values.

Knowledge/experience with:

  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Photography (either through editing or shooting)

Preferred:

Majoring or minoring in Photography or related visual art.
