About the Opportunity

The Content Strategist for WVU Online will lead and execute content creation efforts for WVU Online, Continuing Professional Education, and Special Sessions. This role focuses on crafting compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences through effective communication strategies. The strategist will play a key role in building and nurturing relationships across campus, working closely with academic departments, programs, online students, and faculty to identify and develop impactful stories. The ideal candidate will be a creative storyteller with the ability to highlight the distinctive aspects of WVU's online programs and translate them into engaging content for various marketing channels, including digital, social media, and print.

What You'll Do



  • Write, edit, and produce content that reflects WVU and WVU Online's brand voice, effectively communicating program benefits, career outcomes, and unique learning opportunities to prospective students.
  • Create SEO-optimized content to enhance program visibility on search engines, ensuring alignment with digital marketing and recruitment goals.
  • Develop a consistent pipeline of content ideas by regularly meeting with online academic programs to gather insights and generate stories that highlight WVU's unique digital academic offerings and achievements.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, faculty, and program leaders to uncover content opportunities that showcase student experiences, program strengths, and faculty accomplishments.
  • Conduct interviews with students, faculty, and alumni to uncover inspiring stories, crafting them into engaging blogs, feature articles, and social media posts.
  • Build and implement a social media strategy that promotes online programs, faculty expertise, student achievements, and alumni success stories.
  • Monitor social media channels for program-specific content opportunities and collaborate with campus partners to share relevant posts.
  • Assist in recruiting, managing relationships, and generating content for the online student ambassador program.
  • Coordinate with campus departments and colleges to cross-promote content on various social media platforms, amplifying program visibility and engagement.
  • Develop and maintain an editorial calendar that incorporates program-specific themes to align with seasonal campaigns and enrollment cycles.
  • Curate visual content, including photos, infographics, and multimedia elements, to complement written stories and enhance engagement.
  • Develop scripts and outlines for video features that highlight specific programs, faculty innovations, or student experiences.
  • Collaborate with multimedia teams to produce visually compelling content that showcases WVU's online programs while aligning with overarching marketing goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Integrated Marketing Communications, Advertising, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, Communications.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience involving:

    • Content creation, digital marketing, social media, or a related field, with a focus on content development that engages and informs diverse audiences.
    • Experience in building partnerships across departments or teams to generate collaborative content preferred.


  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities



  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with experience in multiple content formats.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, and program leaders to identify and develop content ideas.
  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices, with experience optimizing content for web and social audiences.
  • Proficiency in managing social media platforms and creating content that aligns with program-specific objectives.
  • Highly organized, able to manage an editorial calendar and prioritize content needs across departments.
  • Knowledge of AP style, with adaptability to align with WVU's content guidelines and brand voice.
  • Demonstrated ability to function with a high degree of independent judgment, professionalism and personal initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel to campus and off-campus (including out-of-state) locations as necessary.
  • Ability to maintain attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
