Pay Grade/Pay Range: Minimum: $44,200 - Midpoint: $55,300 (Salaried E6)

Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm

Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. May teach compass course as needed.

Additional Department Summary: Performs a number of essential advising duties within the College of Arts and Sciences that help support the overall goal of student success. Facilitates the transition from high school to the University experience starting with our recruitment efforts and Bama Bound Orientation programming, teaching an AS 101 course for first-semester students, assisting students in major exploration and developing a semester by semester plan towards graduation, and supporting the various retention initiatives of the Student Services Center.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to work effectively with and understand the interests of students with various backgrounds and experiences. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking skills. Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet and/or database management, etc. Good planning, coordination, and organization skills. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications: Relevant experience working in an academic support, teaching, recruitment, and/or admissions position. Master's degree (completed or in progress).
