Responsibilities

Nurse Manager- RTC

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, art and music therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities.

Summary of Core Job Functions

Aids and support to the Director of Nursing and in the management of the daily Nursing Care as well as leadership, administrative direction and supervision of staff. Provides nursing supervision and oversight, and training and scheduling of nursing staff. Ensures consistent use of the nursing and residential care process in providing quality care, implements patient safety, and acts as a resource to all nursing and direct care staff. Assists in training resident care staff. Provides assessments, nursing care and evaluation of nursing care. Collaborates with other department personnel in establishing and complying with resident care standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Monitors utilization of resources to provide cost effective care. Provides primary channels of communication for physicians, therapists, caseworkers, DON, facility managers and administrators. Serves as a role model for residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors and demonstrates Service Excellence.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and maintains a therapeutic relationship throughout the healthcare continuum.
  • Facilitates the patient and family's right to receive safe, quality, and cost-effective care. Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care and information.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients, families, and Staff. Utilizes appropriate resources to meet those needs and achieve positive patient or Staff outcomes. Assists in creating an environment that promotes educational growth opportunities for nursing peers and colleagues.
  • Demonstrates the use of nursing process as a problem-solving model. Demonstrates a mastery of clinical skills related to patient's mental health and physical health needs
  • Demonstrates respect and understanding for peers and other clinical disciplines and participates as an effective member of the patient care team to formulate an integrated approach to care. Demonstrates leadership behaviors and is committed to the development of self and others. Leads unit staff by example.

Qualifications

Graduated from an approved school of nursing, which confers RN, ADN, or diploma in nursing, BSN (Preferred). Licensed by Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse (Required). BLS certification (Required). Minimum of one year of experience working with children and adolescents in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program (Required). Minimum of three years supervisory experience (Required).
