The University of Arizona College of Health Sciences (COHS) seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as Assistant Dean, Assessment and Evaluation for the Office of Curricular Affairs.

This position will report to the Associate Dean for Curricular Affairs and serve as a member of the College of Health Sciences leadership team. They will have the responsibility to develop and refine a comprehensive assessment plan and calendar aligned with COHS outcomes and accreditation standards. This person will collaborate with college leaders to streamline data collection and analysis for the various stakeholders within the college including alignment with the various accreditation agencies for programs established within the college.

It is expected that the candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in an appropriate department, actively participate in teaching and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor.

This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure.

Duties & Responsibilities

Assessment Strategy and Planning

  • Leads the design, development, implementation, and continuous management and collection of academic data essential for academic planning, program evaluation/assessment, and program improvement across 6 distinct health professions programs.
  • Proactively directs and supervises the data collection, analysis and reporting of educational teaching and course evaluations in coordination with the University's Center for Assessment, Teaching & Technology, phase evaluations, and administrative support services in order to inform robust program evaluation and infuse a culture of continuous quality improvement.
  • Determines methods for systems analysis and disseminate academic data in real time to key stakeholder groups to include leadership, faculty, education committee(s), students. This data may help inform policies and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with information technology to streamline assessment data collection, review and monitoring.
  • Analyze and report data in a manner that effectively and clearly communicates student performance.
  • Lead data collection, processes, analyses and reporting of post-graduation outcome data.

Program Evaluation

  • Lead the curriculum team in assessment instrument development including exam blueprints, standard setting, observation protocols, evaluation tools, scoring rubrics, portfolios, questionnaires, and surveys.
  • Lead educational research and scholarship initiatives designed to improve student educational outcomes
  • Conduct needs assessment with key stakeholder groups to include leadership, faculty, staff, students.
  • Create and deploy formative and summative assessment methods in alignment with the various accreditation standards for college programs.
  • In collaboration with college leadership, direct initiatives to improve both assessment and evaluation strategies.
  • Participate in curriculum committees, meetings, education retreats and other mission-based activities.

Accreditation and Compliance

  • Prepare reports and other materials in support of accreditation and quality improvement processes.
  • Align reporting frameworks and evaluation calendars with program requirements for their respective accreditation standards.

Scholarship

  • Lead and contribute to medical education scholarship locally with faculty, staff and trainees.
  • Participate in national organizations relevant to the work and to the advancement of education.
  • Participate in educational scholarship, including publications in professional journals, presentations at national and international meetings, application for education grants, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated foundational understanding of educational theories and concepts related to learning sciences.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of foundational understanding of educational theories and concepts related to learning sciences.
  • Be able to manage multiple educational projects simultaneously and work with different teams of educators and educational researchers.
  • Ability to conduct or collaborate on qualitative and quantitative analyses.
  • Ability to oversee and manage a team in terms of their work progress as well as their continuous professional development.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Hold a PhD, EdD or similar
    doctoral degree with evidence of assessment experience.
  • Have at least three (3) years of
    experience in higher education, ideally in a health professional context.
  • Demonstrate experience in
    designing a program of assessment and assessment tools in higher
    education.
  • Experienced in research design and
    statistical analysis.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in external accreditation and education quality improvement.
  • Exhibit past experience in data capture, database design, data hygiene, data transfers and analyses.
  • Experience in developing, using and improving learning analytics and data displays.
