Duties and Responsibilities: * Provide daily care and maintenance of a wide variety of laboratory animal species housed within UAC facilities * May breed or wean rodents, or work with animals exposed to hazardous materials * May work with mice housed in the Germ-Free isolators/caging * Operate animal care related equipment, such as change stations, biosafety cabinets, autoclaves, rodent ventilated cage racks, Hydropac, etc. * Administer treatments to animals as directed * Complete all necessary documentation * Perform rodent euthanasia with standardized system * Report operational problems or equipment malfunctions * Receive supplies and equipment into facilities utilizing gas sterilization * Organize and restock supplies in animal rooms and storage areas * Assist with reviewing SOPs * Assist in the training of husbandry staff. * Additional duties may be assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Good verbal and written communication skills * Time management skills * Computer skills * Able to perform work that requires continuous bending, stooping, twisting, standing and walking. * Work requires reaching overhead, pushing and pulling of equipment * Work on the dirty side cage wash area is performed in a wet, humid environment. * Repetitive hand motion (cage changing, breaking down caging and stacking for recycle) * Able to be medically cleared to wear a respirator. |
