Position Highlights	University Animal Care at the University of Arizona is searching for an Animal Technician III. This is the Third in a series of seven classifications. Incumbents are assigned to perform animal care duties in specific room within in one facility, also with additional cage Wash activities and other duties as assigned. Work is performed under minimal supervision with assigned general expectations. The work schedule includes participation in the Animal Care holiday rotation schedule, may include weekends, and may include compensated overtime. University Animal Care (UAC) provides humane and appropriate animal care, ensuring that the highest standards are met so that each animal's well-being is attended to. This includes providing for the animals' daily needs for clean, safe housing and access to fresh food and water; the provision of necessary veterinary care; and the monitoring of the use of animals by principal investigators and their personnel. We provide services and resources needed by investigators to accomplish their research objectives and provide training in laboratory animal care and use to technical personnel, students, and faculty. Duties & Responsibilities	Duties and Responsibilities: * Provide daily care and maintenance of a wide variety of laboratory animal species housed within UAC facilities * May breed or wean rodents, or work with animals exposed to hazardous materials * May work with mice housed in the Germ-Free isolators/caging * Operate animal care related equipment, such as change stations, biosafety cabinets, autoclaves, rodent ventilated cage racks, Hydropac, etc. * Administer treatments to animals as directed * Complete all necessary documentation * Perform rodent euthanasia with standardized system * Report operational problems or equipment malfunctions * Receive supplies and equipment into facilities utilizing gas sterilization * Organize and restock supplies in animal rooms and storage areas * Assist with reviewing SOPs * Assist in the training of husbandry staff. * Additional duties may be assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Good verbal and written communication skills * Time management skills * Computer skills * Able to perform work that requires continuous bending, stooping, twisting, standing and walking. * Work requires reaching overhead, pushing and pulling of equipment * Work on the dirty side cage wash area is performed in a wet, humid environment. * Repetitive hand motion (cage changing, breaking down caging and stacking for recycle) * Able to be medically cleared to wear a respirator.
Minimum Qualifications	High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency and 5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications	American Association for Laboratory Animal Science certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT)
