Description

Plan, Write, and Revise standardized reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, work process procedures, process flow charts, planning documents, diagrams, and drawings, to illustrate work methods, procedures, installation, operation, and maintenance of aircraft structural and electrical repair processes including incorporation of Technical Engineering Directives, crash damage repair, and aircraft modification initiatives. Applies comprehensive technical knowledge and experience to formulate and illustrate charts, planning documents, templates, illustrations, layouts, and diagrams to guide, direct, track, and document work processes. Provides technical assistance, guidance and instruction to employees in the Aircraft Structural and Electrical Mechanic classification regarding flow of work through the use of planning document.
The incumbent will receive assignment and technical information and assistance from supervisors and management staff. The incumbent will be provided with notes, manuals, guidance, regarding operating procedures and details, and will have access to observe production, developmental, and/or experimental activities to expand or verify the provided operating procedures and details. Will have access to blueprints, sketches, drawings, schematics, parts list, and specifications, to illustrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence.
Must be customer oriented and have interpersonal abilities to communicate and articulate concepts, ideas, and thoughts with maintenance production mechanics, support staff, supervisors and management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Creates work planning and work process drawings, catalogs, flow charts, and other data relative to aircraft modifications, removal, replacement and reinstallation actions; part fabrication; layouts, templates, etc., for structural and electrical repairs.
Explains and demonstrates planning, diagram, and chart symbols that are used for aircraft structural and electrical maintenance documents.
Designs, determines, and illustrates structural and electrical repair production sequence.
Prepares and presents Planning & Estimate reports.
Organizes material and completes writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
Participates in Six Sigma/LEAN initiatives.
Maintains and/or completes required records and files.
Assists in layout and distribution of work material for publication.
Must possess computer- related skills associated with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power
Point, and Project.
Must be able to work independently without direct supervision.
Must be capable of preparing aircraft modification/alteration/repair presentations.
Must be capable of maintaining effective liaison with Government Representatives, Subcontractors, OEM, Vendors, and other employees.
Must be capable of effective daily liaison with site, program, and corporate management.
Must work in harmony with other employees.
Must be capable in participating in or conducting aircraft research and development studies related to incorporation of modification/alteration/repair of aircraft.
Must possess and demonstrate the ability to deal with multiple internal and external personnel associated with many varying aspects of aircraft support requirements.
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must provide documented evidence of training, schools, and experience related to Technical Writing.
Provides technical assistance, guidance and instruction as required.
Maintain cleanliness of the work center and around your assigned work area.
Responsible for adhering to all applicable Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention rules and regulations.
Responsible for adhering to Company Tool Control Program.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Must have a minimum of a high school diploma with 12 years of experience as a Technical Writer, 9 of those years must be related exempt experience; OR Associates degree with 8 years of experience as a Technical Writer; OR Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience. Familiarity with aircraft structural and electrical systems, tools, drawings, schematics and aviation/industrial safety requirements is a plus.
Must be able to meet any Government/company licensing/qualification requirements for the position. Must be able to obtain and maintain the level of security clearance required by the Government. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Must have a valid state driver's license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

This classification activity is usually accomplished in an office-like environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with office activities-extended periods of sitting, drawing, keyboarding, and reading. May occasionally be required to lift objects whose weight exceeds 30 pounds. Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment:
The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles. May work around moving mechanical parts.
