About the Job

The Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) trains medical students (MS) a variety of clinical skills and
knowledge. The EM Tech position fills multiple roles assisting medical education in the department. Medical
knowledge at the EMT level is required to perform some functions. There are multiple people in this role to
ensure coverage and scheduling flexibility. Training is provided for all roles.

High-fidelity Simulation Technician
Working in the MSIM center, the EM Tech runs the simulation computer(s) for medical student emergency
medicine simulation workshops.

Bequest Labs Equipment Tech
The bequest lab tech is responsible for equipment set up, cleaning and storage as well as assisting the instructors
during the labs. The tech is responsible for knowing what skills are to be performed to ensure correct equipment
and billing and to keep the department informed of any issues.

Ultrasound lab Equipment Tech
The equipment tech sets up and oversees ultrasound equipment during US sessions. They are responsible for
facilitating student flow during sessions and packing up, room cleaning and resets.

BLS/CPR instructor.
The department teaches MS and the University community Basic Life Support (BLS) according to the
American Heart Association guidelines. Their primary role is to set up, oversee equipment during training, and
facilitate manikin cleaning and storage after class. They may be asked to assist with skills practice.
There are a variety of sessions scheduled each month that allow work around primary jobs or other schedules.

This position is on the Minneapolis campus and cannot be done remotely.
All sessions are held during the work week.
There are no guaranteed hours.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • NREMT or EMSRB EMT certification
  • Demonstrated team performance
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
  • Ability to schedule, on average, at least two/three shifts minimum per month
  • Basic Life Support provider (BLS instructor preferred)
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Demonstrates professional interaction with customers
  • Ability to lift 25lbs
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00 per hour depending on education/qualifications/experience.
