Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Doctoral Success in the UNC Office of Graduate Education has a shared leadership role in the NIH-funded UNC Initiative for Maximizing Student Development ( IMSD) and is responsible for organizing and communicating key elements of the IMSD program. In collaboration with the Director of Engagement and Student Success & IMSD, the Assistant Director monitors degree progress for IMSD students, advises individual students facing specific challenges, and leads programming to foster community and a welcoming research climate. The Assistant Director implements an academic coaching program, which includes training and supervising coaches who work directly with pre-doctoral students. This individual implements academic support and community-building resources to support graduate and post-baccalaureate students and facilitates their training in essential skills for success in biomedical research.

The Assistant Director coordinates recruitment for training programs in the Office of Graduate Education ( OGE), including for the large academic program BBSP (Biological and Biomedical Sciences Program), as well as recruitment for pre-graduate programs. This individual also serves on BBSP admissions committees as needed and manages admissions advocates assisting with the admission process when applicable. The Assistant Director also oversees OGE programming for SOM summer undergraduate research internship programs. This Assistant Director reports jointly to the Director of Engagement & Student Success and the Associate Dean for Graduate Education in the UNC School of Medicine.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity or comparable background in independent academic or instructional activities, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. This experience may be related to the direction/oversight of programs that focus the academic and research resources of a higher education institution towards community or regional issues.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Deep understanding of biomedical training and graduateadmissions practices and demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse teams required. Program management including budgeting, scheduling, organizing communications, and administrative experience is preferred. Must be able to interact effectively with stakeholders (students, faculty, and administrators) using excellent and effective written and oral communication skills. Must have strong organizational skills and be able to manage multiple overlapping tasks.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
