Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced postdoc candidate to work in the area of enabling technologies in organic synthesis. We are interested in developing modern catalytic solutions to synthesize biologically active molecules, heterocycles, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) employing enabling tools such as photo(electro)catalysis and flow chemistry. The candidate should be able to:

  • Conduct research related to organic synthesis, continuous flow chemistry, photo(electro)catalysis along with the knowledge of medicinal chemistry and active pharmaceutical ingredients etc. Industry experience would be a plus.
  • Engage in instrumentation training, operation, and maintenance.
  • Guide undergraduate and graduate students with technical skills.
  • Communicate the results of research to the PI via the preparation of high-quality technical reports, peer-reviewed journal articles, and formal and informal presentations.
  • Participate in writing manuscripts and experimental result reports.
  • Collaborate with an internal and external research partners to facilitate data exchange, instrumentation, and communication in order to meet the needs of collaborative research projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Earned Ph.D. degree from an accredited university in organic chemistry or a closely related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated record of intellectual and academic accomplishments evidenced by peer-reviewed high impact publications and professional presentations
  • Experience with Muli-step organic synthesis, flow chemistry with a specific emphasis on active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and KSMs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to be self-motivated and to work effectively, collaboratively, and collegially in a team environment with scientists and engineers representing diverse backgrounds, skills, and experience levels.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to conduct lab management with regards to safety, general instrument maintenance, and operations
  • Be a positive and enthusiastic member of the lab.
  • Competent & skilled in multi-step organic synthesis and flow chemistry
    Skilled in characterization techniques (1D and 2D NMR, UV-Vis, GC-MS, LC-MS, CV, etc.)
  • Ability and willing to learn and independently perform new applications, instrumentation and procedures
  • Attention to detail and accurate in editing, record-keeping, etc.
  • Capability to work effectively with a diverse group of community members, staff, and faculty of varying degrees of technical sophistication.

Other Desirable Qualifications:

  • Candidates should have strong experimental organic synthesis experience (previous postdoc experience or industry experience will be preferred) and a track record of successful research demonstrated through peer reviewed publications.
  • Research experience at the interface of organic synthesis and enabling technologies is highly desired.
